Thread: new tyres for gen 1, yes I searched and searched

  1. Default new tyres for gen 1, yes I searched and searched

what a weekend got done by the cops on Fri for 3 un road worthy tyres!! It's my fault as I didn't check the inner wear on them and the rears were smooth as a baby's ass. Was on falken ze192 215/45/18, shit tyre don't recommend them but got them with the car

Anyway in the little time I had from Fri I am going to tyre plus in Surrey hills ( thanks dan)for a awesome deal on Michelin ps3's all fours as everyone here gives them good props plus the price is fantastic BUT

I think when I spoke to them they might think I have a gen 2 not 1 and the only size close to 215/45 on ps3 is 225/45/18 and 225/40/18 so which one will fit?

spoke to tyre fac on sat (what a bunch of...)and they said 225/40 will diff rolling speed therefore through out my speedo?

please help I have one week want to do it right

    215/45/18 for Gen 1

    225/40/18 for Gen 2

    What year is your car?

Anything less than 2008 is Gen 1

Anything more than and including 2009 is Gen 2 (current shape)

Have a look at this website - Online Wheel & Tyre Fitment calculator. Offset, Tyre stretch and Rolling Radius calculator

Either way, it doesnt put out your speedo by much and your speedo stock over estimates the speed anyway. Mild changes (legal) of tyres shouldnt put you in the "illegal" zone...

Best tyres for Gen1 is 225/45/18
225/40/18 arnt recommend because of the Gen1 18*7 inch Rim most tyre manufacture don't recommend this tire size for Gen 1
Have a look at the Kumho KU39 , heaps cheaper and nearly a match to the Michelins in the Dry but better than them in the Wet and about 40% cheaper

Funny, I ran same wheels with 235/40 (so taller sidewall) was still about 9% out.

Default new tyres for gen 1, yes I searched and searched

Generally the taller the tyre from stock (either by rim size or profile) will slow the speedo down (or in our case) make it closer to accurate

After slipping on my 19" Wheels, the speedo was more accurate, but now my ECU is out

I have an Ultragauge and it used to be perfect and the speedo used to way out. Now I have to sit in between them to ensure correct speed

    Actual Speed - 100
    Speedo - 104
    Ultragauge (ECU) - 97

Ask these guys anyway how much are the 225/45/18. Last I checked with them they had good prices on the other ps3 prices though not as good as price as the special.

Yeah I've heard good things about the Michelin Pilot Super Sports. Here are worth $500-700 each or from the US for $210 each. Lol what a joke...tossing up between those or locally sourced Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 2's....decisions decisions haha!
