    Default smoke from exhaust

    hi guys,

    just wondering if anyone has expereinced a bit of smoke coming from their exhaust when flooring it a bit. ive actually had this for quite a while now and really didnt take notice of it. after having a read through the forums it appears as most people have smoking issues when idling. is this something i should be worried about, should I have this checked out by mazda?

    cheers

    hmm im pretty sure its white when i see it in the rear view.

    ive had this for probably well over 3 years now. never took notice of it really due to my lack of understanding about cars etc... if ive had it for that long now should something have blown or be damaged by now?

    MPS run quite rich and smoke under hard acceleration but if its smoking at idle most likely turbo seals

    its been covered before but the smoking you found clearly says its at idle.

    Smoke under WOT (Wide Open Throttle) is unburnt fuel. Turbos run rich, especially these things.
    Do it at night with a car behind you and watch them disappear.

    This is what we mean at idle;

    and for anyone else reading, no - we dont mean on a cold morning, thats condensation.

    Has anyone been able to minimise the WOT black smoke and if so how?

    Replace fuel injectors? O2 sensor? PCV valve? How do I lean this bad boy out?!?

    Even with a tune it does not reduce to any noticeable amount.. There are worse things to worry about.. Like leaning out and blowing something.

    I have (once and only once) completely blackened an intersection to the point I could not see any cars behind me for about 5 seconds. Massive backfire (BOV venting).

    My guess is that's the result of daily driving. I hadn't opened up for a while prior to then. Felt sorry for the cars behind.

    Every other time it's just normal puffs of black smoke, which is fairly typical of the MPS or many turbo cars.

    White or blue smoke is more of a concern, especially at idle.

    Haha, glad you liked it! There's a few similar videos on youtube, where they get about 30 cyclists over a distance of around 1km up-hill with smoke
