Not $80k price I can assure you.

Already talk to merc about pre order and the cheapest driveaway is just under $95k

I'll wait a year or two now.

$6,500 added for LCT plus on roads dealer delivery and no car comes basic so you need to order if you want stock with no options.

Merc don't up sell options they just sell the cars with the options already in it and don't tell you about ordering one without them. Most people won't wait so buy off the lot and pay the extra price.

    BMW do the same.
Dad looked at buying a 135i
Asked what one was worth with no options on it at all.
Dealer just gave him a blank look "no idea, nobody has ever asked before"

Not really. Might as well add 25k and buy a Gtr.
If you are going to get wet might as well go for a swim. It's a lot of dollars for a hatch.

Jap imports, no warranty, huge servicing bills, not built as well as a Mercedes. Again, more to a car than its performance.

And it's not right to say "may as well spend an extra $25k"
People generally buy a car to a budget, and won't be able to just spend another $25k.
If you can do that, where do you stop?
Spend a bit more to buy a 2nd hand GTR, but you could spend a bit more and buy a new C63 AMG, or a bit more than that and buy a new GTR or a bit more and buy a 911 or a bit more and get an R8 Audi etc etc etc

If you are spending 100k on a car I dont think budget is a primary concern right... thats 1/5th of a house.

Id rather stretch another 25k and buy a supercar over a souped up hatchback thats worth 100k! Imagine explaining that to your friends..

'hey, nice shopping trolley... how much did that cost?!'
    '100k'
    'oh......'
'but its fast AND its a mercedes!'

    yeah...

Just because you can afford a 100k car the way most people do (finance) doesn't mean you can afford to replace $20k gearboxes if they blow up (ala GT-R).

The new with warranty element is very important, especially when the car is big bucks.

    95k on new A45 or a 2009 GT-R ticking time bomb?

    Easy choice

I think most people that have 100k to throw down on a car, buying a performance car, I would take the r35 over the amg even with risk of gearbox going out. Having a spare 100k for most people with that amount of spare cash, another 20 for a gearbox replacement IF it did happen, is worth it just for the look/feel/performance whatever it is over a hatch. Really comes down to what the person wants and likes, if they really like a car they will buy it regardless of potential gearbox failure

    You've missed my point entirely.

Most people who buy a 100k car don't have a spare 100k, they finance it.

It's not that hard to buy a 100k car on finance, if you make say, 1000/week after tax, you can service that loan fairly easily. But with that income you can't go replacing 20k gearboxes or other expensive failures, hence the new car warranty being a vital component of such a purchase.

Well I can say I make more than that a week and I sure as hell wouldn't even consider buying a car anywhere close to 100k on finance, nor would I buy one unless I had a shit load of spare cash lying around

    Lots of people do though.

For example, BMW finance will do you 100k @ 6.7% over 5 years with a 30% residual.

    It works out to $1,543.70/month.

Lots of people who clear 4000+/month can and do buy cars this way. I'd be willing to bet the vast majority do it this way rather than with 'spare cash.'
