Thread: Tailshaft leaking greese!

  1. #1

    Default Tailshaft leaking greese!

The CV joint at the front of my tailshaft is leaking quite a lot of grease! Has anyone else had to repair/replace this before?

Mazda quote $3000 odd for parts and labour .... they replace the whole tailshaft even though it is just the one CV joint.

Parts can be bought for the tailshaft here (including the whole shaft):
2505A - REAR PROPELLER SHAFT. Fits: 2006 Mazda MazdaSpeed6 | Jim Ellis Mazda

However they do not supply just the front CV joint....

Do you guys think this part is repairable, or does a whole new shaft need to be fitted??

A second hand shaft is on the way from a wreckers in NSW, so hopefully all good soon.

I put in the replacement tailshaft and it is all good now. Was quite a job to do leaving the exhaust on.

The CV boot at the front of the tailshaft was quite split. However there was still plenty of grease left in it so the bearings and shaft are still in good condition.

If I can find a boot to fit (mazda doesn't supply the boot) it will be easy to fix up for a spare.
