    Default Dan's Garage - 2007 Mazda RX8 - Solid Black - Opti-Coat

This car had just recently been bought by the current owner. Some prior paint readings around the car indicated that it'd had a fairly hard life. Paint depth readings were all over the place, but read as low as 68 micron on the bonnet/roof, to up over 130 micron on the boot (which had obviously been resprayed at some stage).

The car had had a dealer detail quite recently, so there was only a little oxidation. However there were plenty of swirls and buffer trails in the soft Mazda paint

    Initial Rinse

Chemical decontamination and foam. Then two bucket wash.

Once dried is was easy to see the buffer trails from the dealer "detail"

Inside under the lights, the extent of the swirling became evident

    Cue A Team music.....

50/50 on the bonnet after a single pass of HD Uno on a Lake Country Orange CCS pad

The bonnet and front guards showed up some very bad pitting which was previously hidden under the swirls and buffer trails. Nevertheless, gloss levels were satisfactory after 2/3 passes of Uno on Orange, followed by UltraFina on White CCS pad, followed again by UltraFina on Black CCS pad

50/50 of front guard. unfortunately there was nothing I could do about the aforementioned pitting evident in this pic

17hrs of paint correction later, a high level of correction achieved despite the low paint depths. There were some very deep swirls and RIDS (Random In Depth Scratches) though that could only be minimised and not removed entirely.

The bonnet, looks ok when the sun is hiding behind clouds:

But once the sun is out you see the pitting. It's free of swirls and holograms at least

    Boot lid

    C Pillars

Some rids still present around the guards as they also had a starting paint depth of low 70s. A pretty good result though considering where
    it started at.

    Wow... Talk about effort!
It looks amazing... the owner should just fall off their chair when they arrive. The before and after shots are like day and night

For once i don't mind seeing Dan's head in the reflection of the shot!
    No upskirting for Dan

The best shot us this one already mentioned. Looks like an accidental shot into the sky...

    Amazing effort considering the issues.

Was this one of your tougher jobs Dan?

Lol thanks Guys. Especially Pete and Bobby......you crazy kids

The owner was rapt. Couldn't stop thanking me

Brad, it was fairly challenging mainly due to the low paint levels. I wouldn't have corrected it quite as far had the owner not wanted to Opti-Coat it.

I bet it's worth all that hard work watching the owner drool over his baby

Dan you must get so much satisfaction out of that when you transform something that means so much to someone

    Awesome work mate

Thanks Peter. It is quite startling for many people to see just how much gloss and clarity they've been robbed of when they see pics like that.
