Thread: Top Center Dash Single Din, Gen 1 MPS3

Default Top Center Dash Single Din, Gen 1 MPS3

Anyone know where I can find a replacement for the top centre dash (where the hazard lights button is) that has a housing for a single din radio?

I'm pretty much looking for this exact thing here: FS: Top Center Dash Single Din Radio Piece

The only one that I've found is at japanparts and not only costs a mint but also looks ugly: JDM Japanese Auto Parts specialists | japanparts.com

... they all look pretty ugly to be honest The radio would stick out a fair bit.

Oh My Buddha ... you are some kind of Google God. I wish my Google-fu was as strong as yours.

Yes, whilst a single din is going to stick out a bit and look a little ugly it's better than anything I can DIY myself.

The ultimate goal is to have a tablet (either Nexus 7 or iPad Mini) where the stock stereo is and then have a single din stereo up in the centre dash.

No it took me a while to find that - had it saved in my "watching" list. Picked up a flip-top GPS last week, which will do the job however like you once a more mature tablet/amp/double din setup crops up, I'll be all over that.

I'm thinking of modding a double din to fit whatever tablet I end up getting.

If only the iPad mini WiFi had GPS. So frustrating.

Sounds good tony, I'm going to do same when the opportunity arises. Also have a 7" touch screen VGA, some small laptops/netbooks, in waiting for a future mod. I'm much better with the gadgetry side of things in my MPS than the mechanical, which seems OK Didn't know the iPad mini lacked GPS - a big shortcoming - if it can be jailbreaked one day you could run a patched bluetooth stack on the Mini + bluetooth GPS + Tomtom etc. ... food for thought anyhow.

Oh, and this is the link to the Chinese aftermarket flip-up GPS unit I just installed:

    Not worth $360 though.

They should all have GPS. The wifi only models though will only work within range of a wireless LAN

3G models will work everywhere here is a 3G signal, just like a phone, though it could get exxy running a full time GPS.

Yeah Byrd, I've looked into jailbreaking iOS devices and sharing the GPS from my Android via bluetooth and it's definitely do-able but I'm not sure how seamless it'll be and I don't know if the BT stack can forward the GPS to Tom Tom. Would rather just fork over some more dollars for legit GPS. I'll test this with my iPod touch once a untethered jailbreak is out for iOS6 (A4 chip).

I cant decide whether I want the iPad Mini or the Nexus 7. I much prefer Android over iOS in general but I much prefer the Music player in iOS, specifically the Genius playlist generator function. I use it all the time on my iPod.

Ultimately, I just want some fancy touch screen computer / tablet thing with music and GPS where the stock stereo is now.

@Caffeine-Fiend, only the Cellular iPad Mini has actual GPS. Apple - iPad mini - Technical specifications

The WiFi model iPads and iPods can only guess where you are based on the WiFi access point you are connected to.

Even though I'm an Apple fanboy (I'm a moderator/involved on Mactalk Australia forums), I'd very much be inclined to go the Nexus 7, and run Torque + bluetooth OBD2 adapter. That looks awesome.
