Thread: Replacement Discs and Pads

  1. #1

    Default Replacement Discs and Pads

I've searched around a little but I thought I might post my question here

I had my 70,000km service the other day and was told that my front discs and pads need replacing. $1350 for new discs and $495 for new pads seemed a little excessive and the Service guy recommended that I probably could get much better bang for buck with an aftermarket setup

Any advice on Disc and Pads that I might research into?

Jebus christ. Are they carbon ceramic discs they are selling or what?!

It mostly depends on what you plan to do with the car, if you want similar performance to the stock brakes then get a set of cleanskin brakes direct discs (They werent available last time I checked but apparently should be soon, if not then a plain DBA rotor should cost less than $150) and Remsa pads ($125 for fronts). That would get you the full set of front discs/pads for way less than $500.

If you wanna go racing then get a set of DBA4000 slotted Rotors ($200 each) and QFM A1RM pads (I paid $135 for a set of fronts but that may have been on special) - These pads can squeal a little bit so be prepared for that if you end up getting them. If noise is an issue then get the Remsa ones.

Places can charge a little bit to fit them as well, I was charged $250 to fit a set of brake pads once and I have done my own since then.

I've emailed them as the website does not contain much info

I was really looking at brands and options as most places won't give you much info unless you know what you're looking for

I'm not gonna go racing, but I do like the look of the DBA slotted or drilled discs. Hehehe my car is so vain!!

So slotted over drilled? Any reason
I have gotten a quote for Bendix HD Pads DB1445HD along with DBA Slotted/Cross drilled 4000s

Any advice on the Bendix HD pads?

APPARENTLY drilled is more prone to cracking...

Less likely if I was to drive my car as a daily and not race?

Nothing to worry about if you're not racing it. I don't really like the look of cross drilled rotors, I think the DBA T3 slots look badass tho.

Yeah. GSL just got back to me with a December date

What pads did you go with?

Not really convinced to go T3 slotted or the XS cross drilled slotted or just T2 slotted

I'm not in a great hurry and can wait till December

Apparently slotted work better than cross drilled.

Ive gone T3 slotted on the front with T2 slotted on the rear with HPS pads.

Not installed yet though. Going in when the Bistiens turn up.

Last time I tried to order hpx pads Gsl said they don't stock them for the Mps anymore, that's when they directed me to remsa.

I just received a quote from GSL RallySport and they quoted on
    DBA T3 Slotted Discs F&R
    DBA T2 Slotted Disc F&R
    QFM HPX Pad F&R

I might wait and go for a combo of T3 Fronts and T2 Rears and QFM HPX Pads all round

I have just had my dba 400 slotted discs machined for my new pads, Feroddo 2500's. Heard good things about them.

Had Hawks in before these and they were great. I'm bedding in the new pads at the moment, so i'll let you guys konw how they fare......

Are the Ferodo pads in the stock MPS calipers? I wasn't sure if they were available for our cars. I was hoping to try them out next if the price was right. From what I read they will be similar in performance to a set of A1RM's.

    Not sure........

I'm on my 2nd day of bedding - in the Bad Boy's

    Very excruciating

Ok. So I'm gonna wait and get the T3 Slotted for the Fronts and T2 Slotted for the rear. Seems, price-wise and good setup

Just confused about pads. Looking at QFM HPX all round as I'm just a daily driver and not looking at tracking my car and as my OEM brakes a squealing now and driving me crazy don't wanna go to the A1RM s

How do the Remsa equivalent compare? Any other options?

    Dude,

The best pads I've had so far are the Hawk HC10.
Low dust & very responsive no matter whether cold or hot. I've just tried the Ferodo 2500 for an experiment. If I don't try them I'll never know.

I think adventually I will install a Brembo BBK as the OEM brakes are insufficient for the power these cars supply when mods are made....

Unfortunately the good stuff always costs a LOAD!!!
