    Default Heavy duty wheel cleaning

Hi @ZAS and @Caffeine Fiend, ive picked up these scabby old 17 alloys and would like to clean them back to a point where I can respray them.

I have a bottle of Turtle Wax tar remover which has moved a small amount. Uselesd stuff, but had to try.

What im after is something that might breakdown all the road grime. And there is shed loads of it.

I noted the Kare and Black Wow products seemed promising but just wanted to confirm before hitting go.

    Thanks

    Brad

Try some sandpaper maybe 800? If you're going to paint them.

^ If painting you should sand anyway, but if you really want something to clean use an APC (All purpose cleaner) like Optimum or Blackfire, I believe Dan uses something like Finish Kare SIRR Steel, Iron Rust Remover 946ml to clean wheels

I hadn't intended on sanding these, they're not worth the effort, Plasti dip is their future. But might be a good way to practice.

That stuff you mentioned @dazza looks like the stuff. Thanks for the tip.

SIRR is good for metal particulates but you will also want something to help lift that tar off, which SIRR on its own won't do.

Finish Kare have a system of which SIRR is one part

    http://www.zas.com.au/product/361/fi...on_system.html

The other two parts are their soil remover, which should take care of the tar, and the heavy wash.

Maybe also get your self some brushes to agitate these when they're dwelling on the wheels

An APC, even neat (undiluted) may not shift that on its own. It looks like something that will require a specialist product like the above

get them soda or dry ice blasted then paint them, cheapest easiest way - most aluminium/alloys are cleaned up this way
