He said the new RX-7 would therefore cost somewhere between Nissan’s 370Z coupe ($68,640) and the rival Japanese brand’s top-shelf GT-R coupe ($170,800).
    Wow, that's a fair gap.

    Interesting though.

no.... bad mazda... that's too much money!!!
(guess ive found a reason to progress up the food chain at work)

put the rx7 back around rx8 price range

Addressing those who think 220kW is not enough for a modern supercar, Mr Yamamoto said the next RX-7 would “definitely be lighter” than the FD RX-7 (1310kg) by being “probably around the weight of the Toyota 86” (1250kg).
this is interesting, but sad it's not closer to MX5 weight

Will probably be too big to get close to the MX5 in terms or weight. Also for the price I suspect they're going to sell it for I'd want some refinement in the interior, which adds weight too.

With the price range they have in mind, they seem to be targeting near super-car status. Mazda don't have any super high performance cars in their range. It looks as if they are going to be targeting the GTR market but going for total car balance like the Honda NSX as they want to stay naturally aspirated

but who knows, its still 5 years away. this is how the GTR was revived. Hopefully the NSX makes a return along with the Supra. Then we get all the JDM players back in town

Edit: the NSX is back in town! http://www.topgear.com/au/car-news/n...-show-2012-9-1

Think the sp was around 130k and yeah, rx7 where the back bone of Mazda's development. The rx8 never an attempt to surpass the rx7 status so in order not to destroy the rx7 it needs to premium if its going to make a return.

No thanks, in 5 years the r35 GTR will be around 40-50K, half price and heaps better, with more potential.

    More potential?
You clearly have no idea about automobiles... There is many modified 13b rotors that are making in excess of 1600hp and run 6s quarter miles all day

Yeah i'll believe it when i see it, fingers crossed, i always thought it would
be great if they had a light nimble affordable version, like the original
SA22c was, AKA a like an 86 but NA rotor powered and also bring out a tripple
rotor turbo balls to the wall GTR competitor.
Anyway i best start saving just incase it is made.
    Cheers Todd

R26b would be amazing. It would never happen though.
