Thread: Is the Mazda6 MPS set to return?

Default Is the Mazda6 MPS set to return?

CarAdvice have reported Mazda6 program manager, Hiroshi Kajiyama, openly discussing the possibility of AWD and an MPS variant for the new model 6:

“We are looking at the possibility of introducing all-wheel drive [for Mazda6] but it’s not going to be available in [immediate] timing.

“We are looking at MPS but it’s a different study; we are looking at it separately to [regular range]. That kind of [performance] character… there are many people who want to own that type of vehicle. There are many people anticipating this model will come out again.”

With the previous 6 MPS’s 2.3-litre direct injection turbo transferring into the Mazda3 MPS hot-hatch, a new hot version of the Mazda6 would be expected to offer closer to 250kW.
    Oh god....yes please

May just throw a spanner in the works of my plans to look at the MkVII Golf R around that time...... especially if the 6 looks anything like recent photos have been suggesting

    Great find too BTW

Fairfax media are quoting Mazda6 program manager Hiroshi Kajiyama as saying his dream is to produce a new MPS6 with AWD. I hope there will be a wagon version. I may have to put the XC70 plans on hold. Maybe i could keep my MPS until i trade it on a new MPS. This is awesome news.

Yes I'd be keen. I've posted my wish-list for a new MPS6 before but here is a shortened version:

    - 250+ Kw (turbo) and around 500nm torque
    - AWD (with beefed-up components and mounts, esp rear diff)
    - 18-19" wheels, wider tyres than at present
    - Massive brakes, at least same as current but prefer bigger
    - Paddle shift 6 spd DSG
    - GPS/Nav
    - Top notch main beam lights & spot-lights instead of fog-lights, not the pissy mains it has now.

I don't care about Bluetooth, entertainment and other media tizz - just give me a solid, reliable, good-looking, functional car that runs like a scalded cat and out-accelerates the Germans! A fast-shifting DSG box would wipe at least a second off the current 0-100 figures.
CP_e Standback & PNP; CP_e 3" SS Downpipe; Corksport FMIC with Top-mount K&N filter & OEM Ram CAI; Turbosmart BOV; Dashhawk; Prosport Boost Guage; JBR solid shift bushes; DBA 4000 Wiper-Slot front rotors; Hawk Ferro-Carbon HPS Street front brake pads (@ 69,000km); Sumitomo HTRZIII's in 225/45 x 18

And price it all under $60k
