Thread: Painting Rims - what colour for Metro Grey?

Default Painting Rims - what colour for Metro Grey?

    Hey guys,

picked up a set of Enkei RPF1's for a reasonable price with the intention of refurbishing them.

They need a bit of a straighten up as there are a couple of waves in them - and also need a new lick of paint.

I'm a bit stumped as to what colour to go for, and it seems as though Metro Grey owners in the states have a similar issue.

I don't want anything like fluro green. At the moment i'm thinking a bright silver with lots of metallic in it.

But gunmetal grey would also look ok, and not so sure about black.....could even colour code to metro grey?'

I'll paint the brakes but probably just a neutral colour like silver or gunmetal.

Any opinions or pics that might help me would be awesome.

    cheers

    Mat

SMOKEY, this may be sacrilege, but how about the colour EGO from the Ford falcon range?

That colour is very similar to metro grey - would probably better of paint matching with metro grey or might look a bit weird.....but I appreciate the suggestion!

I know the gold looks hot on red ones...
Silver works on the black ones...

Metro grey is the bastard child

It's a tricky color for sure - I'm still leaning towards conservative silver.....

Here is some more ideas tho

I'm not really a fan or the RPF1 design, but I like the bright silver idea. That would be my vote also

Bright primary colours or fluoro colours are a bit too 'look at me' for my liking. Blacks are a bit overdone.

Bronze is OK, but I don't really like it against the Metro Grey. They really look their best against black cars

    Just my thoughts

Yeh not my fav wheel either but the specs were right so I grabbed them. They are friggin light though, so that gets them over the line for me. To be honest I don't think many wheels look good on this car. Even bbs lm which looks good on anything doesn't suit this car.

I think I'll go with silver and just get my panel shop to mix up something silver with crazy metallic in it and maybe a pearl over the top.

Bronze and gold would look like ass, and black is played out.

Saw some shadow chrome finish rims when I dropped them at wheel tech today, looked awesome.

Yeah shadow chrome needs a larger flat surface area than the spokes on the RPF1s, though the outer rim design could make the effect work. Probably a bit more that you'd be willing to pay to get it done though

These cars struggle with most euro style wheels, especially the mesh BBS style. It's the same with the Gen IIs. It's a shame because they're still one of my favourite wheel styles

Yeh can get them in a super black chrome finish from factory - which looks pretty good - but as you said, gotta pay to play and I spend too much money on this chariot as it is.
