    Default Mazda 3 MPS Gen I problems you have had, warranty fixes

    I thought it would be a good idea to compile a list of problems people have had with new MPS's.

    If you could post the problem item, symptom and action taken to resolve that would be great!
    Eg. 3MPS Gearbox "wong wong" noise -> (Penrite SYN 75W-90)

    As things are posted ill add them to this first post, or mods add things straight in this first post so we can keep track of them all.
    obviously not every car will have same issues.

    Please keep your posts on topic and technically orientated as this is a great resource for warranty claims/troubleshooting.
    If you need further help with a problem noted here or a new issue please post in an existing thread or create a new one.

    3MPS
    * Gearbox "wong wong" noise -> (Penrite SYN 75W-90)
    * Seat belt restraints squeaking (Centre and A-Pillar)
    * shock leaking oil (Any) -> Replaced
    * New front pads and rotors (warped discs)
    * New rear pads and rotors (cracked rotors/squeaking)
    * Creaking noise in the front left quarter panel
    * Compressed front springs, struts and bearings causing
    a knocking noise
    * Electric window control trim due to broken clip
    * Rear sway bar + end links torqued properly (factory oops)
    * Thrust Bearing (after only 10,000 km) - was too noisy - could hear it over the CES exhaust!
    * Air conditioner control panel - was loose (could push in/out) had broken clip inside
    * Turbo replacement
    * Exhaust Gasket Replacement (squeaking)
    * Water pump (leaking/squeaky belt) -> replaced pump
    * O2 Sensor
    * Belt Tensioner Pulley
    * Cracked 2nd gear bearing (gear box replaced)
    * Clutch "sticking" on release -> Clutch cable replaced
    * Steering Wheel (Leather defect)

    Apart from the engine mount recall the only thing I've had fixed under warranty on my 3MPS was the rear LHS shockie was leaking oil.

    Warranty claims:

    Thrust Bearing (after only 10,000 km) - was too noisy - could hear it over the CES exhaust!
    Centre seatbelt buckles (squeeking)
    A-piller Seatbelt restraints (squeeking)
    Aircon control panel - was loose (could push in/out) had broken clip inside
    Wong Wong noise - Gearbox oil replacement - penrite 75W-90
    Lots of front end suspension rattles
    Lots of rear end suspension rattles (ended up replacing the whole suspension cuz Mazda couldnt isolate the prob)
    No 4 engine bolt (Maz recall)

    All good now, except for a weird power steering noise (sounds like a BOV whistle pop). Will have them check in the next service.

    I'm coming up to a 20000km service and will be asking about:

    - wong wong noise (and clunky/noisey gearbox in general)
    - banging noises from left rear suspension
    - warped front discs
    - seat belt squeak

    Gotta march down to Mazda tomorrow! 3500kms and...

    I have this GOD AWFUL knocking noise in the rear when driving over bumpy roads, it is so God damned annoying! They either fix it, or they can have the f*cker back! It's annoying to the point I could take to the car with a baseball bat!

    Settle, petal.
    Probably the rear sway needs torqueing properly.

    * Power window padding all sticking out
    * L/H Front speaker can rattle with some music - Bose my ass!
    * Speedo is out by over 8% - which is apparently the allowable minimum by both Mazda and ADR!!!

    (a) wheel alignment - take it to a third party alignment specialist. They'll tell you if there's some reason it won't align properly.
    (b) seat belt squeak will go away after awhile - if not a touch of WD40...prob best to get dealer to do that - wouldn't want the seatbelt mount becoming loose. I had it when brand new, it's gone now and hasn't come back. Didn't have to do anything.
    (c) clunk at rear usually swaybar needing torqueing - will do it once and once only and after that's sorted it won't repeat.
    (d) padding sticking out - bitch and moan to dealer :-)
    (e) speaker rattle - bitch and moan again.
    (f) speedo - live with it. If it's under 10% they don't have to do anything; it meets RTA and ADR guidelines. It is a bit annoying, I'd like to look into having this recalibrated, but that may not be a straightforward fix.

    mines been good only small things, rearvison mirror replaced, and 02 sensor, and that thing to do witj engine mount. hey dottu i know as common problem with the suspension in the back, the top mounting bolt for you shocking sometimes comes lose you can pull you boot apart near the wheel arch so u can see the top of the shocky mount bolt, get one of or friends to bounce up and down on the boot and see if any movement there.

    Hey MPS JIM,
    I had the same drama with my seat-belt indicator thingy when I got it (forgot to mention it in my list), but they fixed that on it's first service.
    Love your foot-note by the way, very good advice!

    Report card after today's service:

    - "Wong wong" and noisey gbox. No problem found. Got in the car and sure enough I can still notice it...
    - Banging noises from left rear. Sorted! Obviously tightened everything they could under the car, feels like they did the engine mount too.
    - Warped discs. No problem found. My eyes almost fell out of my head when the service guy told me this. He said that I'd have to come back and take the foreman for a spin to show him...
    - Seat belt squeak. fixed.

    They also said the rear bumper was very loose so did that back up. Overall the car does feel better/tighter than it did before, but I'm still annoyed as I don't feel they explored the brakes/gbox issues properly.

    2.5/5...needs improvement

    I had seatbelt indicator rattle too. Had them re-seat the assembly - made it worse. Ended up wedging some thin black foam under the rear of the assembly and all fixed!

    THAT was immensely annoying actually. I drove it away from delivery and within a hour was trying to figure out where the noise came from; and it sounds like it's coming from the dash, just to make it hard to find...
