ok got my car back today.
turbo is covered by warrant, no charge.
Brett did apologize to me, but still dunno why it failed.
only part was charged is o2 sensor which is 770 which I think is a bit pricey.
didn't get a invoice yet as they said they didn't have one yet and will mail to me.

Could have been worse. Not a bad outcome really. I think I've seen somewhere that the OEM O2 sensors are about $600-$650 so sounds about right sadly.

Agreed. A bit of a fizzog, I think. I'd like to know what really failed. Can you get a look at your original turbo and/or take it to a specialist fro a 2nd opinion? Short of crook bearings or a spindle that dried up through lack of lubrication, and which maybe caused all your compressor vanes to self-destruct, there is bugger all that can go wrong with them. They have to be the simplest contraptions ever made. The art is in the volute and vane design, not so much in the mechanicals. And what took them to the crook O2 sensor? Did the sensors get pulled when they removed the pipe to get the turbo off, and maybe cross-threaded on re-installation? More questions than answers from where I sit and I'd be digging deeper.

Sounds very similar to an issue I had a few years ago now. Basically, the fuel pump booster shit itself. I'd be driving, hit boost and then same as you, stuck at 3000 RPM, no boost, limp mode. All I could imagine is that the pump wasn't able to get the high pressures needed for when on boost. One of the negatives of direct injection.

Took a few days of sensor testing on a dyno and a whole lotta issues (doesn't throw an error code). Maybe suggest it to whoever if the problem persists. It's not a cheap fix otherwise. I've had no problems since.
