Thread: Thinking of buying a series 2 mps 3 (2008)

  1. Default Thinking of buying a series 1.5 mps 3 (2008)

    Hey guys,

Considering buying one but I know nothing about them.. :/ I have always liked them though.

At the moment I'm driving a 04 honda euro (manual) and I'm wanting something with a bit more go but wont compromise fuel consumption to much, when driven normally.

Just have a few general questions.

    - Pro's of the car
    - Con's of the car
    - How is reliability
    - Fuel consumption
    - Service cost's from mazda.
    - General comfort
    - I hear the torque steer is horrible.. true?
    - Anything else that you guys can think of that I might want to know about.

I am going to see one on saturday but I thought it would be good to get a bit of info before hand.

    Cheers.

pro's: well, we bought one... so lots
cons: they like breaking rear engine mounts
reliability: depends how you drive it/what mods you do
Fuel consumption: depends how you drive it... gotten 7L/100 on a highway, and ~40L/100 flogging it around a track
    Service costs: http://www.ozmpsclub.com/forum/gener...06-2009-a.html
Comfort: where you live? if country NSW and/or parra road in sydney, they're not much fun suspension wise
Torque steer: floor it in 1st and you'll get torque steer... i dont really notice it anymore unless i do something really stupid

    2006-2008 is gen 1, 2009+ is gen 2 (smiley face/bonnet scoop)
2008 models (gen "1.5") should have a slightly different interior to 2006-7, easiest way to spot is that there should be a gloss black strip above glove box

As yes, then it's a 1.5 I'm looking at, I'll edit it now, cheers.

Why rear engine mounts? how much are they to replace?

Not much, and when they do it a perfect time to change them for something better. It's one of the first things recommended to do.

The roads around me aren't all that bad.. I have coil overs in my accord euro anyway so I'm use to a fairly stiff ride.

Does fuel consumption change dramatically with mod's?
How well does this car respond to mods?
Is there a lot of aftermarket parts for this car?
Do you guys get a lot of cop attention? ( A answer from a melbourne owner would be good)

    Cheers.

fuel consumption is really relative to how often you floor it, and are in stop/start traffic, i get ~13L/100 around town, cause i live in sydney, and it's a shit fight to go anywhere... ~30% of the time im stationary...
car responds best with a tune... physical mods do a bit (intake/exhaust/intercooler) but a tune really changes it
there's a fair bit of aftermarket stuff out there

traded a 2005 Honda Accord Euro on a gen 2 MPS in Sept 2009 when the gen 2's first come out. 3 years later the MPS has not missed a beat and I still get a smile on the face every time I drive it. Best of all since buying the MPS met some great MPS owners and ex owners here in Far Nth Qld.

    Have you test driven one?

After own a Honda you will love low down torque and the POWER!!!

Pros- Looks tough, brakes well, rides ok, really good modds availble now and good advice/guidance from the USA now on OZMPS (wish they were here 2 years ago)
Cons - FWD, tyre wear, fuel ecc (esp when modding) if over 240kw atw will need to start saving for engine rebuild/Rods 2yrs life on stock rods ( no different to WRX's, VW, Hondas etc)

Buy mine. nuff said lol where in melb r u? you can test drive mine to see what its all about. I tested around 20ish before i chose mine. There was a hugeeeee gap between my mps and the second best one. But im fussy. How much u want to spend on a 1.5? There seems to be only 2-3 for sale in Vic....

    If this helps, my 2c

    - Pro's of the car. Very quick, light-weight, practical (being a hatch), surprising power pack little car
    - Con's of the car. FWD, traction out of corners (torque steer with factory setup) (that's all I can think of as most other cons are consistent with the 6)
    - How is reliability. Good, seals and mounts are the let down on these cars. Inspect what you can before purchase, also have a look at suspension & brakes (rotors) for wear
    - Fuel consumption. Better than the 6! Put your foot down though and she's thirsty
    - Service cost's from mazda. NEVER take my car to Mazda so no clue, but in general $250-300 would usually cover my service costs
    - General comfort. Great
    - I hear the torque steer is horrible.. true? Never driven one but would assume so. A few mods will help but not completely eliminate. The MPS6 sends power to the rears on throttle
    - Anything else that you guys can think of that I might want to know about. Excellent bang for buck car! IMO one needs to modify to get the true potential...especially with the 3MPS as they come boost-limited from factory. Can't hurt to do suspension also and a few power mods...only then will you feel MPS power and thus the pleasure of driving, just didn't feel it with a stock MPS...personally

With great power comes great fuel consumption...

3 posts above this one? And also on carsales.....

I'm not trying really hard to sell it to be honest.....as you can probably tell from the rubbish pics on the add. But if the right money came along, and it meant u could swap into something auto without cost, I would do it.
