Thread: Buying Parts in Japan?

    Default Buying Parts in Japan?

Hey guys, I'm going to japan on a snowboarding holiday in january and was thinking about gettings parts for my 6 while I'm over there. Mostly keen on getting wheels and tires but could go a little more if it's cheap and/or easy enough. This idea may or may not have been influenced by the mighty mods episode where they buy second hand wheels at UP garage
Anyone done anything similar or know about shipping parts back?

    +1 for interest.

I am going to Singapore next year, very keen for AUTOBACS, so I will be in the same sort of situation.

Have not figured a way to break it to my girlfriend that I want to spend (a day of) our anniversary holiday buying car parts. Should go well...

"What's this? Tiffany & co necklace for you... ohh, and by the way Autobacs, small, very small little shop in Singapore sells nice stuff tooooo"

I could go for a two-for-one: Promise sex every night, but pretend I really don't want to so it seems like a punishment... she may however see right through that plan

Have a look at the weights and cost of the items there.

As long as you stay under the $1k AUD mark you will be fine from a customs perspective, as in not having to pay duties, GST, customs tax, and whatever other bullshit they can come up with.

Make sure you have your invoices with you for whatever you buy, or you are boned.

Alot of airlines have weight limits on luggage, best to check what is first, and what it is likely to cost you in weight penalties from the airline as well.

It could actually end up cheaper to send them by a freight forwarder, or specialist cargo freight company.

I was certainly thinking about posting stuff back via freight and was hoping someone had done it before for some tips. Not sure how I'd go getting a trolley with 4 wheels packed on it back to australia as luggage.

Is that $1,000 MAX per item? Because $1,000 is total sucks balls. And keeping the receipts makes alot of sense
I only plan on getting a few small bits and peices (Gear knob, Lightweight Racing Wheel nuts, etc) so it should be fine to slot into my bags. I just wanted to go to AUTOBACS to mainly have a good perv.
