Thread: Need a Suspension PROFESSIONAL in brissy!!!!

  1. Default Need a Suspension PROFESSIONAL in brissy!!!!

    Ok guys,

I have run out of patience, i have had a vibration in my car for the last 3 and a bit months and its gotten the best of me. My car is no longer a joy to drive... i dread driving it

A little back story - (sorry its a little bit of a read)
My lil mazda developed a knocking so i took it into my local ultratune (they have done all the work previously on my cars) they diagnosed the issue as 1. Faulty drivers side shock 2. failed Steering rack.
So both were replaced, Steering rack was a reconditioned one and the suspension was from a fellow forum member.

When i picked up my car, besides from looking awesome (thanks to the lower springs that were on the shocks) it had now developed a vibration which could be felt through the pedals, drivers seat and a pulse through the steering wheel. The vibration started around 50km/h and continued all the way to 130 km/h ( i haven't been over 130km/h i behave on the roads haha but im sure it would still be there after 130km/h) I took it back to the ultratune boys, who rebalanced the wheels and advised me that i would need some new tyres as they were worn un even. They attributed the vibration to the uneven tyre wear.

I purchased 4 new tyres and.... the damn vibration was still there. I took it back to the boys again who said, the vibration was just the harder suspension vibrating the car... i dont believe that one bit, i have had lowered cars in the past and never run into this problem!!

I took it back once again and they replaced the drivers side engine mount as they said it was gone.... and the vibration CONTINUED !!!

I took the car to Fulcrum Stafford, who spent 3 1/2 hours trying to work out what the vibration was, when i picked it up, they gave me the bad news, they suspected the intermediate shaft bearing was noisy and said this could be the reason. They also gave me the whole oh your need all new bushes, and it just happens that we released a full bushing kit for your car yesterday.... yeah right, i work in sale and i know a sales pitch when i hear one.
So i found a second hand intermediate shaft with bearing in awesome condition, it was super quiet and absolutely NO play at all. so in it went..... and guess what THAT VIBRATION IS STILL THERE!!!!

Now you are caught up ----

I called fulcrum today, explained that the vibration was still there, their answer was, "well i guess we just work down the list of suspects replacing each bit till the vibration goes away" Errrr come on, you call yourself suspension specialist and thats your answer, just work through the list till it goes away, any grease monkey can do that, i brought my car to them, in the hope they could solve it and i wouldnt have to just keep replacing bits till it goes away. i have already spent a fair amount trying to fix this and my girl is starting to get angry as the bank balance jsut keeps dropping and dropping.

So after all that, sorry but i just needed to vent a little, my girl is sick of hearing about my car and the vibration haha

Who would you guys recommend in brissy that is a suspension PROFESSIONAL and won't just revert to the replace every little bit and hope it goes away answer. Or has anyone had a vibration like this and might be able to shed some light and a possible resolve?

    Thanks heaps

if it is a vibration that slowly gets worse with speed, then suspension is not the area you should be looking at. anything that rotate should be looked at first, start at the wheels and work inwards. i bet the issue turns up before you even start working inwards.

Cheers mate, so you think check out wheel bearing etc? I have tried the whole - hold at 3 and 9 and pull and push and then at 12 and 6 and pull and push again... no movement. when i spin the wheel there is a bit of a dry grinding sound, but i cant work out if its coming from the brakes or the bearing. If the bearing is dry it might not have movement but still be screwed... right? also looked The CV boot and it looks intact

endlinks and sway bars are all tight ?
i get a knock with my coilovers when the top ring loosens.

ia the vibration over the whole car or just front or from the rear ?

I jumped under the car last night and checked the sway bars and end links. they seem solid, there is a lil flex but no major movement. I did notice the exhaust move around a fair bit when i was shaking things to find what might be loose. I looked at the hangers, they looked ok, no crack or breaks?

The vibration seems to be in the front of the car

i don't think it is the wheel bearings. the hub will fall out of the upright if that much vibration was being had.

again, start at the outside/wheels and work you way in. don't skip past the easy stuff.

You might need a priest to get rid of it

So this weekend i have managed to organise a wheel swap with a mate, he has a set sitting in the garage, gathering dust. So i will be seeing if this wheel swap fixes the vibation. If its still there, i will be looking at the rotors

    working from the outside in
*keeps chanting Vibration be gone, vibration be gone*
