Thanks Slixx. Looking for a new clutch as we speak. The cushioned button sounds better for a car that gets a bit of traffic during the day IMO.

"The Clutch listings we have for the Mazda MPS all include a solid flywheel replacement.
Your vehicle was released with a Dual mass flywheel, which what you heard was correct, cannot be machined and should not be re-used!

The Exedy Sports Tuff (Heavy Duty) is mostly used for lightly modified vehicles or those used for towing (where the demand is greater than standard). These kits contain a higher clamp load clutch cover and an organic clutch disc with sprung dampers to smooth out disengagement & engagement.

The Exedy Sports Tuff Cushion Button Clutch has a spring loaded centre in a cushioned button clutch which provides a reasonably smooth transition when releasing the clutch, but still giving increased engine torque. The clutch kits contain a high performance clutch cover assembly and ceramic clutch disc with cushioning & release bearing. The Cushion Button Clutch doesn’t give you quite as much flexibility as an organic clutch would."

If you don’t mind a heavier feel, the cushion button clutch is a great clutch.
They do engage earlier, they are a more aggressive clutch than the organic clutch, more grip and but still drivable due to the cushioning between the plates."
    Whats the price of these?

I'd go for a tuff clutch - had one put in a 220rwkw 3.0L skyline and it never complained - even on a day when i did 16 passes at heathcote - and I'd argue it made a fair bit more torque than an MPS.

Any more clutch than that and you risk ruining the daily drive ability.

    Trade Brake & Clutch Springvale
"The price for fitting your chosen clutch into the vehicle is $2703.50 inc GST. This price includes the heavy duty cushion button clutch & new flywheel as recommended by exedy & all labour costs.
    Thank you for your enquiry"

    Bloody hell!

That's a bout 3 times what I paid to get one put in the skyline, admittedly didnt need to do the fly wheel and a north-south RWD gearbox is much easier to work with but still!

I'm gonna think twice about using launch control off the line now!

@ slixx do you actually need a new clutch? or just want one?

@LOOPYMPS has only done 50,000kms, but i think Calder has taken its toll on his car!

Sorry man. These office hands would struggle without clear supervision

I'm usually the guy that buys lunch and brings beer

This is why all my SURE updates are still in their boxes

Mazda will want ~$1200 labour to do a clutch in an MPS 6... and will refuse to fit non-OEM...

I paid $600 in labour to get mine fitted and the guy swore at me afterwards...

The clutch kit is around $1600 (sport tuff HD)

    Cheers,

    Chris.

Thanks Victa, won't be doing that then!!

I guess $600 isn't bad including a few swear words!!

The one I'm interested in is the Sports Tuff HD Cushion Button Clutch kit, I would be guessing its a little more than the standard HD

From memory the Cushioned button was ~$100 more and the "stock" was ~$100 less than the HD...

Look up my old clutch thread for the details... :-)

Pedal weight with the HD I have is heavier than stock... enough that the GF dun like it... and everyone else who drives it comments on it... but it DOES bite and is easier to work than the standard one...

But I HIGHLY reccomend a replacement flexible clutch line to go with the HD clutch...

Mine failed within months of the clutch install, and the pedal feel with he braided line is heaps better anyway!
