Thread: MPS 6 Windscreen

    Default MPS 6 Windscreen

    Hi all,

My windscreen has a gigantic crack on the bottom right hand corner. Mazda wants $900 plus labour for a new one, O'Brien wants $590 supplied and fitted.

Whilst I was talking to Mazda I asked whether the w/screen for the MPS differed from that of a standard GG 6. The interpreter believed them to be the same but when he tried to confirm with his system it gave him a different part number and price.

What's the difference between the MPS and the standard 6 w/screen? I've managed to source a w/screen for a standard 6 for $50, $850 less than OEM.

I'm hoping (fingers crossed) that they're interchangeable...

    Thanks all!

    Chuck.

    FYI, it's an 05 MPS Non-leather pack.

they are interchangeable in terms of fit and size. But they are two completely different windscreens as far as part numbers go and that is because the windscreen that comes standard fitted into the MPS is extra strengthened compared to the one on the normal mazda 6 to cope with all the extra power flex etc etc . As a cosmetic thing too, it comes with the darkened strip at the bottom etc. I originally had a 'normal' mazda 6 one put in from obriens and it didnt have the strip down the bottom (or a very thin version) from inside the car you could clearly see the windscreen wipers and this really bothered me, so thats when I rang Mazda to see if there were any differences between the 6 and the MPS6 one.

If you have windscreen insurance as part of your road side or insurance policy they should cover the cost of replacing with an OEM one. If thats the case Id definitely be getting the OEM MPS one put back in there

It's funny because when I asked the parts interpreter at the Mazda d/ship how much the w/screen might cost I could hear her chuckle in disbelief at the price as well. I could picture a facepalm in progress.

Luckily, having worked at a d/ship comes with some pull so I managed to get a really good deal with supply and fit for $150 with a 12 month warranty.

Yes and no to insurance. Unfortunately, being an ex-Uni student you always run the risk of having accidents in the car park with people who don't understand proper road standards. Having come back from a lecture and noticing a sizeable dent in the side and with no note I pretty much had no choice but to claim and because of that my no claim bonus went through the window and so no free w/screen.

Being under 24 has my excess pretty high which doesn't seem that worth it so I elected to go with the cheaper option but if it doesn't work out sooner or later I'll re-gain my max no claim bonus and just "accidentally" smash my w/screen and get my OEM w/screen back.

Thanks for the replies guys! It's slightly concerning that Mazda trained specialists don't know certain differentiations in parts but at least they were very helpful in attempting to find out and offer some possible solutions.

I'll be going with the standard 6 w/screen for now just to see how it fits and copes with the day to day drive. If it doesn't work out the bloke is happy to replace the w/screen with the OEM and go through insurance. It's just the matter of forking out a larger wad of cash.

Awwww Mel, does that mean you have got rid of Black Betty? I haven't been on the forum much at all lately, so am well out of the loop.

    Cheers,

Sorry to hijack the thread, but is the side window glass the same in the MPS as the normal 6? I had to have a front passenger window replaced a few months back, and that cost an arm and a leg because it was a different part number!

I asked this question whilst I was talking with Melville and they said they're exactly the same.

That's what I was told anyway.

Windscreens obrian are lying pricks it seems. They told me that they had glass for both the MPS6 and the Mazda6, and the glass was 'obviously different'. Even though I suggested I didn't think it would be. Pro tip, avoid them!!!
