Thread: Gen 2 warranty

    Default Gen 2 warranty

    Hi Everyone,

Im sort of saving for bits and pieces for my gen 2 mps, but i got my 15k service coming up soon, do i have to get my car serviced at mazda to keep my warranty valid? does anybody know how this works?

i herd that to keep warranty valid i need to get my car serviced at mazda at-least once within the year and the rest of the services can be done elsewhere.

is there any truth to this?

Its just i don't want to give 300bux for service when i can get it done for 150 elsewhere and then with the 150 left over i can buy my mazda some performance parts hehe.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanking you all in advance,

    This extended or manufacturers warranty?

I believe to keep manufacturers warranty you just have to go to a place that does log book servicing... to keep extended you might have to keep going to Mazda

Zero truth to that, your warranty remains valid as long as you go to an approved mazda mechanic. This is nearly all licensed mechanics, not just Mazda dealers.

At least this is the case in my Mazda handbooks, it says something along the lines of we preference you to have your car serviced by Mazda technician but the choice is up to you.
So with that alone, I don't think Mazda would have a leg to stand on legally should there be a problem.

+1 to Reedy,s Post. Save your bucks , dealer service is way overpriced. Try to only use dealer for warranty work or updates to ECU Etc.
Consider buying OEM Oil filter and your own specific oil and getting legitimate workshop to change ETC.

and, sarcasticone, im not sure if its extended or manufacturers warranty, i got the 2010 model tis year and it still has 3 years warranty, so not sure if its extended or manufactures.

Sounds like one additional year left of the initial 3 year manufacturer's warranty with another 2 years of extended warranty remaining to me?

My dealer offered my an extended warranty if I serviced my car with them but look at the fine print, with mine the "extended" warranty only covered the first $500 of repairs, it wasn't worth taking them up on at all.

I think he means he has a 2010 car, means 1-2 years left depending on the plate.

Unless it's an "M" Day car, then you get an additional 1 year on the warrenty, Maufacturer or Extended type, I'm not sure. But look in your glove box for any info on it being a M Day car. Mine came a month after the car was delivered. The sales guy said don't looks that paper, it's the only proof the car has 4 years total warranty.

You don't need an "approved Mazda mechanic."

Any mechanic is fine, they legally have to give you warranty. In NSW anyway, anywhere MTA (Motor Trades Association) approved is fine to servicing, they legally are obliged to honour warranty if serviced at an MTA shop.

Just wondering if anyone has any insight into this. I have heard a couple of conflicting things about this: if you perform bolt on upgrades (SRI, TIP, BPV, etc) is the factory warranty still valid. Some say yes, some say no, some say only if the bolt on is the cause of the "problem". In the USA they have a law that states that the resposibility lies with the dealer to prove that the add on was the cause of the issue, so if you were to put on a SRI, they can't say warranty is void if you have an issue with, say, the audio system or air conditioning. Any thoughts?

The Service Advisor at each dealer has the main say with regard to whether a warranty is valid or not. Many Service Advisors are sympathetic towards modding, however it's always a good practice to talk to them first about your modding plans and find out direct from them whether they have issues and to what extent.

Sounds promising. Will talk to my Mazda service people. They are pretty good, so hopefully shouldn't be too much of an issue. Only have about 6 months of factory warranty left though, so fingers crossed there are no issues!!!!

Any Mazda dealer that has an MPS specialist ("technician" I think they refer to them as) should be sympathetic to any bolt on upgrades... They are usually car enthusiasts (my local Mazda mechanic has a modded MPS6) and would appreciate the upgrades.

On another note I had my 3MPS serviced a few weeks ago (60km service was the first one I've had since I bought it off the previous owner) and was stoked when I picked it up they'd washed and vacuumed it!

Don't let them wash it. Bad bad. Have you seen the machine they put them through. I want mine back dirty. I don't spend 2 hours washing it by hand only to have then put it through a belt sander. Nice of them though, so I guess that's service for you

Hmmmm... I assumed it would be 'some' type of automated wash (like carlovers brushless wash or something) but i didn't see any scratches or anything afterwards.. might just play it safe anyway (like most owners i wash mine every weekend so im not gonna miss an extra wash once every 10kms)!

Im chuffed about the vacuuming though, they can keep doing that for me

Yeah, it's pretty good service, quite rare in my experience. My Dealer had an automated car wash so I knew not to use it
