Forgive my noobie ignorance, but what job does the sindwinder perform and what performance increase would I expect?

changes the intake on your car, so it replaces the stock airbox with a pod filter (basically)
performance increase, something along these lines:

    also get more intake noise

Sidewinder is the turbo inlet only.

The turbo inlet pipe (TIP) or Sidewinder as how SURE Motorsports have call branded theirs connects the Turbo with your airbox or aftermarket intake.

An aftermarket TIP will improve air flow but by itself will hardly have any noticeable effect.

Thanks for putting up the info for me guys!

Yes it's just the inlet but it connects to your intake.
So if you're thinking of putting a intake on you might as well pick this up also
