When I last had a quiet word with Jutta Dierks, Managing Director of Volkswagen Group Australia, it was at the recent local launch of the Volkswagen Golf VI. Talk inevitably turned to the hi-po GTI and how long it would take to arrive in Australian showrooms.

With the Australian market traditionally one of the last to receive the Golf GTI, the outlook back then was that we’d have to wait until 2010 before we’d see our first allocation shipped.

Now, however, it appears that we will be able to get our Antipodean mitts on VW’s newest hot hatch before year’s end.

A precise local release date hasn’t been firmed up, but Volkswagen Australia assures us it’ll be here before 2010 rolls around.

Pricing and spec levels have yet to be announced too, however we’ll keep our ears to the ground for any further info. Keep that dial locked onto TMR, folks.
