Thread: Do performance car buyers care about fuel efficiency?

I dont understand.. with my CES TBE/CAI and the Xede, I actually get better mileage. Anywhere between 550 and 650 km per tank.. So technically it doesnt bother me one bit.

But back in the days of my STi... well that was different. It was a guzzzzler

I was looking at a new fun to drive car. I won a track day at Oran park playing the MPS computer game as part of the launch of the 3MPS. Got to drive the MX5, RX8, 6MPS and the 3MPS. The RX8 was unbelieveable but the 3 gave me the biggest smile and was the car I was thinking about a week later. The rest is history and haven't regretted it since. The fact it uses the same amount of fuel as my old '83 corolla and eats the majority of idiots I come across is just a bonus!

This is actually a bit disturbing and may be a warning flag. Less fuel means leaner mixture and hotter cylinders and may be setting up an environment for detonation. Make sure you watch your AFR/ KR carefully.

hmm but some mods which allow your car to breathe better and so on would create a more fuel efficient environment wouldn't it ?

got a mate who is into bikes and the less restrictive he makes his bike the more fuel efficient it becomes... and that's how he sells it to his partner too HAHA... and also the exhaust is loud so people can hear him coming... = less accidents !!

It wont be my problem in 35 days My AFR gauge reads rich all the time under acceleration, and just goes into Optimum range at WOT. Only goes lean when I'm gear breaking off the throttle, or idling at the lights, which I consider normal. Over the last year, I've only had 7 counts of knock retard (and that was on a bad batch of fuel from Caltex after they had the total shutdown over Xmas and I had to get 91Ron mixed with 98Ron in Agnes Waters - fuel is $hit there), but in Brisbane, no fuel cut or stuttering, so I dont think theres a problem with my car. My 2.3ltr MZR motor has been top notch and has certainly behaved itself... For the record, the mileage i noted above was mostly highway driving. Squirting around town (stop start stop start at the lights), i'm lucky if I get 450km to a tank.

And interms of guzzling, if I really cared that much, I wouldnt be buying a Subie Sti

i just consider fuel to be my cars food.

i like to wine and dine (98/race fuel) and i don't care that it has a huge appetite.....(17L/100kms)

    17L/100 ... is that normal for an XR5 ?

some generic tunes do run rather rich on the xr5, it aids cooling tho without becoming too rich.

    But who's counting

After owning some radical rotaries in my younger days I don't a fyling continental about fuel...

I owned a 2.6i 4WD Bravo with a 4" body lift and use to run 33" muddies and with a kerb weight of about 1800kg's and using high revs when 4wdriving fuel economy went out the window..

If my 2 wasn't on a lease I would be conscious of when I buy fuel but I wouldn't drive any slower.......on the Cowra weekend away my 2 was loaded up with a little extra weight and consider I had to keep the MPS guys in sight so my average 6.3l went upto 7.5 so u can imagine that the 2 wasn't hanging around....

If I buy a MPS 3 next it will be the extra zoom zoom I'm looking for....not the fuel bill
