    I have 2.3.6 on my nexus S

It's the latest version of android from google.

Having a nexus phone means you don't wait for upgrades and you will get ICS on release.

I'm also getting a Galaxy Nexus

Being a member on XDA developers means you don't have to wait for upgrades (unless you are lazy), and you will get ICS when it is leaked before release...

IMO wait for the Samsung Galaxy S III, or if you need a higher res screen but don't like Samsung, Optus are bringing the Motorola Droid Razr to our shores (pre-order from the 24th Oct for $0 on a $59 cap), and what a brilliant kevlar encased bit of kit that is! I've never been much of a Moto fan - well, not until they released the Atrix which was and still is one of my favourites - but the new Razr has all the goodies and more. Its also water resistant (splash proof)..

For those who have just bought one - I still rate the Samsung Galaxy S II though. I've had mine now for +6 months, which is the longest I've had a phone in the last 6 years

On occasion I have been made to eat my words, and this is one of those occasions. While I don't have my SGN yet, I've had a go at one at work.

Simply put, its a pretty awesome phone, but in my honest opinion, for those of you looking to upgrade to another phone and wanting it to last for 1-2 years, wait for the SGSIII

Just load the ROM from xda. 4.0.3 is released

Galaxy Nexus comes with 4.0.1 but you get OTA update

So I'm gathering the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is the Android phone of the moment then?

Coming up to end of contract in the next few weeks and I'm thinking Android instead of sticking with iPhone

Mate, I'd do it. Its the best Android handset out there by a long shot. Camera is a bit of a let down, but on par with the iPhone 4

    It certainly is...
The other option would be to wait for the Samsung galaxy S3...

    Cheers guys

I'm also reading that Optus are looking to have their LTE network rolled out to Melb about the middle of this year.

    So

Do I hold off and see what gets released in the way of 4G handsets?

I'm not sure I can put up with my iPhone 3GS for another year though. The latest IOS has turned it into a real pig :/

From what I've read, LTE destroys battery life, and unless you're looking to do large amounts of HD video streaming, probably isn't worth it...

If you're really after speed, try telstra nextG, bit more expensive, but damn side faster...
