RE my swann 3rd party extendended warranty. im going to give them another call. the service department at mazda called them last friday and said to me they have to do the work and provide them with the infor but 90% chance they will cover it. i dont like that 10% uncertainty
reading through my warranty book and the list of what isnt covered has me a bit worried, there stuff about if the car is modded of if i failed to service that, but thats not a problem, i have followed all the rules, but hte first point has me a bit worried.
1. any mechanical failure or cost covered by any other waranty, entitlement or recall camplaign including any manufacturer's new vehicle warranty, dealer statutory warranty and/or repairer's guarantee
clutch wont be covered, i understand that, but im praying they will cover the engine mount and vvti(if it is that) my car is bone stock so fingers crossed.
As I said in my earlier post, according to the service schedule in my owners manual, the spark plugs are to be changed at 70,000km, not 100,000km. Unfortunately you probably can't argue that though as you should have signed off on the docket agreeing to pay for that list of work when you dropped the car off.
Does $4000 for a clutch seem right though?
Has anyone paid that much for an OEM part?
Yes.. $3700ish, Genuine parts, including installation by mazda.
No... $2200, Exedy kit, including installation by Brian.
Chris.
Yup, WRX, at Z Subaru MT G. Had to take it back and they still havent fixed the problem. I will never ever ever be servicing with them again. Extended warranty (being a 6 yr old performance turbo) I wanted some peice of mind, ****ing waste of ink. So very disappointed. Service admin was a knuckle, saying they 'fixed' the problem free of charge, well THANKS buddy, the noise wasnt there before you bent me over for $1675, and I only drove it 15km before calling you up. Ill be going with a specialist next time as Im sick of getting charged top dollar for a premium service by untrained, unsupervised apprentices who dont care about the vehicles they are working on.
/Vent.
Find someone who will appreciate your car for what it is, not someone just (barely) drudging through their 8 hours of work. And OEM is over-rated.
I was quoted $510 for 110,000klm service from mazda, they said it was oil, filter, air filter, platinum spark plugs (Something about these being crazy expensive due to our DISI engine?) and something else I can't remember.
I'm about to go in for my 100k... Already spent big $$ on mounts and timing chain stuff god knows what else lol
so my mps6 is back at melville mazda today. they are stripping and assessing to verify that the vvti or whatever is the cause of the rattle and replacing hte engine mount. $1800 and they are talking to swann (my extended 3rd party warranty)
fingers crossed im not out of pocket but im bracing myself.
theyve given me a nice kermit green 2 as a loaner car in hte meantime...
Hey man, can you please let me know the extent that Swann covers the work for you (even by PM if you don't want to make it too public).. I've got their "5-star, three year" warranty, but haven't exactly read too deeply into it..
ill post the outcome once i know. ive never made a claim and im even not too sure after reading through this.
Drivesure 5 Star Platinum Extended Warranty
i paid just shy of $3K for the extended warranty a year and a half ago (its like paying for a turbo failure in advance aint it? hopefully thats covered! but i know stuff like clutch, wear and tear isnt)
melville mazda are leading me to believe that swann will cover the engine mount, and need verification on what is the exact issue with the rattle.
regardless, im bracing myself to be bent over thou, as im a glass half empty kinda guy.
Page 6.. Points 28 and 29... So my car isn't covered for nuclear or biological terror attacks. What the ****, going to go get my money back now.
That document doesn't fill me with confidence.. I bargained my warranty package down to $1800 (the chick at Honda North had incredible tits, I wasn't shy in commenting on the fact and ended up with nearly 50% off AND a kiss on the cheek... ). But was seriously considering not paying it and just buying a new turbo straight off the bat, lol!
hey rayd!
those $$ you have spent on mounts.. was there a reason why? my MPS6 thumps on gear changes, particulary 2nd to 3rd. i think the transmission side engine mount is gone.
what were the symptoms for replacing mounts on your end?

When I destroyed my diff mount it was clunking and thumping and rattling if I didn't have the revs up, but that was obviously seen when I stuck my hear under the car and tried to move forward in first with the handbrake up, the diff would jump around. a similar thing can be seen with the engine but the symptoms were subtle, slight thump on acceleration, and a faint rattle on cold starts and that was the passenger side mount that went for me.
No nor do they cover any other wear and tear items like CV joints and boots, clutches, brake rotors, rims etc etc and if the car is modified outside OEM specification the contract reads all bets are off.....i was also suckered/fleeced and when needed their warranty was told to go back and read the contract.
