Thread: Lakin plates

    Hey guys

Just been talking to Phil (SUPER nice guy) about getting some mounts for the MPS6, and just have a couple of questions about this kind of thing.

I want to get rid of that mount of the front bar of the 6, cause it doesn't fit the NSW plates. Come to think of it, I don't know of any plates that it would suit, it's *such* and obscure size.

The issue is that the front bar is curved a little, and I know that Lakin are able form the case to the curvature of the car (Very desirable), however, I'm unsure of the legality of this in NSW. It's not a *huge* bend, and truth be told, the plate bends in a sightly concave manner with the standard, non-fitting mount.

Does anyone have any idea of the legality of this?

    Thanks

    TJ

I have a GenII 3 MPS in Vic
I slightly bent my plate to match the curvature and I asked VicRoads if this is allowed

They stated as long as the Plate and it's letters/are identifiable during the day an night from a distance this is fine

That's what the NSW law seems to state as well.

I'll give the useless authority over here a call on monday and see what they say, and get it in writing.

After immense pressure I relented and jumped into this Lakin caper (all of the cool people have them ).

I bought a set for the MPS and for the CX-5. Phil called me the following day, we had a chat. Top bloke. So interested in what we do on the forum. Sounds like he wants to sponsor

Anyway, if people have haven't jumped yet wanted some photos, here we go...

Rears first. This is my old plate, not issued by the local authority, more the skills of certain forum member...

The back of the plate mount...

The front side where the real licence plate goes...

    This is it mounted...

I chose to go the clear platic cover as well

Notice how it seals around the edge, good for keeping dust out...

    The back one mounted.

This is the front mounting plate, they form it to shape at the factory.

For the clear front cover, they form it to shape as well.

    And here it is on...

The plastic cover does take away some of it's stream line factor, but I like it protected (that's why the rest of the car is covered in plastic too ).

Hope that gives you a better idea of how good this system is.

    Brad.

Edit: for a little extra, they offer a security screw and tool:

Hey guys. Received my Lakin plates. Wanting to install the front brackets.

    Having a bit of trouble....

So you're meant to use a 7mm bit to drill out the 2 silver brackets one the bottom stockers?

How do the brackets actually stick on? Double sided tape and drill another 4 holes to screw the new screws in?

Have a look at the previous page @Yeldarb 's post.
The front plate holder has 2 holes in the middle that you screw into grommets that go behind the holes in the front bar.
Its pretty straight foward and probably the best appearance mod you can do to a Gen2.
    Good luck bro!!
