Default I can't believe the service department at my Mazda Dealer

Took the MPS in today to have the 1000 KM check done.... also asked them to do a couple of things like adjust the sensitivity on the auto headlights - coming on too early, auto lock when the remote is out of the cars sensor range and the bonnet needed realigning - only out a bit on the drivers side but still....

Well, the service guy looked at me as if I was stupid about the first 2, but I calmly explained that there was a setting in the system that they could adjust when they connect their equipment.... I still don't think he believed me - he said that the lights are either on or off.... and not sure that he understood what I meant about the remote.

Well the bonnet - he came out and had a look, said that they would not want to look at that, if they readjusted it, it would hit the headlight, I then explained that there was a grove in the head light for the bonnet (and we are only talking about a 1 cm adjustment if that - yes I know I am a perfectionist) and the clincher - he said to me - 'this is a Mazda - not a BMW or an Audi' so basically he was saying that of course panels where going to be out of alignment and I had to deal with it.

Well after an email to the Dealer Principal, I get a phone call from the Service Manager at lunchtime and the car is ready and everything done....

Though the quote still sticks in my head - 'this is a Mazda, not a BMW or an Audi...'

So, I don't think that the car will be going back there again.......

That's ironic because I've seen lots of new BMWs and Audis with mis-aligned panels

Sounds like a quality Mazda dealer to me. I wouldn't be going back there either

These so called "Service Advisors" look at you like you`ve got 2 heads when you query there" wisdom and advice".They always know better than you.Find yourself a good local family run Mechanics Shop for basic servicing and only use the dealer for any warranty work that may be needed.Remember the old saying: Once bitten twice shy!

Small workshops are suicidal for new cars.
I'm an ex dealership mechanic, and while understanding the concern for 'perfectness', small workshops are not the way to go. Find yourself a quality, recommended dealer. Small workshops don't know about the new cars they're working on about 99% of the time. Lost count of how many times I've had to repair a small workshop's ' **** up '.

there's also the checklist of things that the dealers run through. whether they actually do them is another question

but like grayj said above, I'd take my car to the dealer for servicing as they specialise in the make and models, especially with newer cars cause of all the electronics. But after a few years and the car is proving reliable, then take it to the local mechanic to do the basic servicing or do it yourself.

I would`nt even send my whipper-snipper for a service with any Dealership (not just Mazda but the whole lot of them). As you can tell,I don`t have a high regard for Dealership mechanics!

Was this at the belco place by any chance?

Sounds like belco to me. The guys in woden are pretty top notch.

Funny thing is Mazda head office say they want to be in the same category as the euro brands

Agreed with grajy. The bigger workshops delight in small shops and backyarders, they keep the good tradesmen employed.

As for the Audi BMW comment.
Has that guy ever seen one?
From my experience working on them they are only a small step above being nothing more than a German Commodore or falcon. Although, the more you spend on them the better they get. Example an old 318i is nowhere near as well built as a M3.
I remember my tradesman and I road testing a new 318i, his opinion was "i'd rather drive my datto" referring to his Datson 180B.

Did you talk to the salesman?
If so, forget them, the vast majority of salesmen I've met have got less than no clue about cars, personally I'd take everything up with the service manager first, then the dealer manager second, after buying the car, never talk to the salesman again. He's got his commission, and couldn't care less anymore.
That's just my experience, but I'm positive they aren't all like that.

Yeh Hope it was Belco and not Woden. We have both brought and taken all our Mazdas to Woden and have never had anything but great service from them.

Noel the older guy at the front counter does have a very dry sense of humour and can be very cut and dry about things. Woden would be my quality recommended dealer

I must add, that not all dealerships are any good. I've worked with a lot of dickheads that should never be allowed near cars, let alone allowed into a dealership workshop!
I was a technician. I cared for my cars that I worked on. If the customer brought their car to me with trust, the least I could do was my absolute best. If a customer came in demanding things with no respect for our team, they got no respect in return.
MORAL: Show respect if you want it in return. And don't bitch about it otherwise.

He's also been a mechanic for 40+ years, his son(i think) works at the bridgestone centre down the road (also highly recommended)

Moral to the story, after each service post in the dealer review thread using the template so we can build a database of the GOOD dealers

Your entitled to be as demanding as you want. The dealer can disregard your demands, but they should NEVER be rude to the customer.
They could have at least said "ok, we'll have a look at it for you"
