I've been meaning to start a similar post on MSF but not many people there know very much. There are a couple of people with Quaifes there but nothing else.

I can only see the Mazda3 listed there, you sure it can fit in the MPS as well?

Some EXCELLENT videos that explain the different operation of various differentials:

So at Wakefield today I had Jeff take my car for a quick spin to give me some pointers.

The interesting thing was that his comments were "the car feels great! It's been set up really nicely, doesn't throw any surprises at you..... could really use a 1.5 way diff though."

I hadn't said anything about the diff, so his unsolicited comment is definitely food for thought, particularly because my current thinking was that the factory LSD was holding up fine.

RE the rear wing, removing it was good for an extra 0.2-0.3s consistently on a drag strip on a gen 1...

Yea the wing on a Gen 2 might not produce downforce but it definitely smooths airflow. Without it then things would get even more sketchy above 200km/hr. At drag strip speeds it wouldn't matter.

What type is the OEM diff?
How does it behave under acceleration/braking?

OEM Diff is a Viscous type.

In a fundamental sense it would be a 2-way diff. But since the coupling in a viscous diff is quite weak, it doesn't make a huge difference. It doesn't "lock" like a true mechanical diff does so fundamentally it's like a 2 way diff, but functionally it is more like a 1-way with an extremely soft setting on the clutches.
