Rear engine mount is good start. Cheap and easy to install. Have a search through the forum as well as I am sure I have seen this question once or twice before.

Correct but I think most of the issues occurred when they sent out the wrong sized shaft with the first batch and people were overtightening (myself among these)
Yeah, I think that is overkill. Certainly did not seem necessary when I did mine. Just be very careful not to overtighten the allen studs that go into the aluminium housing

Err, I would not try this from 1st to second. I do this 2nd to 3rd and so on and that works fine but 1st to second will put too much force through the transmission. You will break something for sure.
