Looks great, onion :) Took my rebuilt BK MPS on it's first decent drive country Victoria on weekend - goodness it's a fun car to drive :)
That's impressive, Nexus - and a credit to the NVH of these cars remaining decent after all the KMs and conditions they're driven in.
Owners of hot hatches seem to switch their cars frequently to...
Hi all,
I've not logged on here for some time, how is everybody's MPS tracking along? Last year, my 2006 Gen 1 MPS3 had a long block rebuild @ 170K, new 10" XTRONS Android headunit installed, and...
Good to hear - no mine ground hard (same as you, felt it down low/central) mainly on full steering lock, then it'd be great for a week with nothing. It then got worse starting out grinding at low...
Any grinding in full lock/reverse in full lock? I just replaced the gearbox in my MPS ... it was the diff that shat itself hard.
It's rebuild (oil rings and likely valve seals while they're in there) or new engine time. It has a new turbo, new VVT and I'm hoping the engine will be good enough for rebuild, I'm going to start...
Thanks Dog, that's just the info I was after :y: I'll get in touch with Mev and obtain that important second opinion ...
Leak down test ... I somehow thought it was done, needless to say I am inexperienced with this stuff.
With kids/work and this being my daily I've little time to diagnose, but what would be the DIY...
Thanks MPS2NV. If I took the car to a reputable rebuilder, would they be able to further diagnose the fault with the manifold off? In your opinion (noting compression, black smoke, high oil...
Thanks Nexus, appreciate your input - so you are in Melbourne too? We should do an OzMPSClub meet one day.
I'll give it to the dealership in that they spent a considerable amount of time checking...
Hi all,
An update on this, it was taken to a dealership who spent a considerable amount of time trying to diagnose the fault. Compression dry was ~ 200psi all cylinders rising to ~ 240 - 250 psi...
It blows a small amount of smoke off the lights ... oil loss has been pretty sudden. This occurred "around" the VVT replacement but the smoke plume has become more obvious over the past 5000km...
It hasn't had a leak down test. No oil in the intercooler or around (new) turbo. The mechanic usually puts 10w/30w in
Hi all,
I own a 2006 MPS3 with 172K, largely stock - CorkSport TMIC, BEGI intake, Hypertech generic tune. The VVT was replaced @ 165K and the turbo rebuilt @ 170K (at the turbo time new intake...
170K here, just rebuilt :)
I'd just keep it well maintained with regular oil changes and inspections. I'm at a similar point with my Gen 1 MPS3, also at 170K, it's getting a turbo rebuild soon and had the usual engine mounts...
Is it the original turbo? It'll likely need a rebuild one day, check the shafts for any play.
Please delete post - didn't read up enough :)
Hi,
I'm experiencing some reduced fuel consumption and an increase in black smoke under acceleration, I'm planning on replacing the front O2 sensor and MAF - the mechanic can't fault the engine...
Sick of reading about this - last interview with a Mazda rep confirmed a new MPS wasn't coming as the CX-9 turbo engine was far from suitable.
I'm pretty sure car detailers ditched claybars after the prep towels became common place. I bought a box of claybar cheap ages ago though and reckon I'll still be going through it in 2025 :)
Thanks Mark,
Let's say I'm exaggerating the 500ml/200km oil top-up, I gather there is a fine line between MAX/MIN and I'm always finding the oil level low when I check every couple of hundred km...
Hi all,
I own a Gen 1 MPS with 168k on the clock, the VVT was replaced a few months back and the car drives hard with normal mileage (no mods apart from a mild Hypertech tune and Corksport TMIC). ...
Keep looking - if it's just a basic grind/respray 350 for just two wheels is pushing it.
Ideally you need the cover as it creates a seal between the engine and the hood seal to get the coolest air - stock Mazda covers are around, or you could make your own (look at the Corksport TMIC...
