What is the average operating coolant temp expected from a Gen 2 Ms3?
This morning it was 7-10degrees c in Melb, cobb AP coolant temp showed 99-100deg max c in stop start traffic. I was expecting more around 90 max with thermos kicking in especially with 7-10deg ambient.

just stage 1 cobb ots, TIH SRI, free egr unplug and jbr trillogy. Coolant res is topped up.
I only really noticed the temps, since we found the METRIC UK option in the AP to display temps in Celcius, and decided to change one of the AP guages to coolant temp.
actually i might have to re check my coolant res, cos i had to move it to install the JBR engine mount
The Max/min isn't really a very good indication, as if you're just sitting still for 10-15 minutes, its going to shoot up...
I'd bet once you're actually moving, you'll see it drop reasonably quickly...
I average about 180f/80-85c when cruising. Getting up to 215f/100c in slow traffic is pretty normal. I've hit 230f/110c on the track at times and even into the 240f/115c range once when I had a hose go on me.
I get around 85C when driving around, but never really had my AP running in dense traffic to see how much it jumps up. However when I did a motorkhana I was seeing temps around 105C at the end of each run.
And i was seeing 107~110 at the same event as above.Quote:

Yes I've seen up to 247F (119c) at the track so rad upgrade is on the cards for summer for me too ;) can't say I've monitored it in traffic driving before though..

If the car is boiling, worry.
If its not, don't worry about it.
And ALWAYS determine if a car is boiling by actually seeing boiling water and steam, not what a gauge is saying.
Could tell some stories about that! :whistle:

Well it wasn't boiling... so I guess that's a good thing, but yes, i'll be keeping an eye on it tomorrow at the track.
That instance of 119c was on a 35 degree day mind you.
I've decided i'm going to start recording some coolant temp numbers so i have something to compare to when I upgrade. That way i will be able to see and measure the improvement :)
Won't the car trigger some kind of "this is no good warning"
