Alpine Will Face 4C With Turbo Engine And Featherweight Body: Report

Renault may be preparing to hit Alfa Romeo's new 4C coupe where it hurts, if new reports on the upcoming Alpine sports car are to be believed.

According to Britain's Autocar magazine, the Alpine car will get a 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing nearly 210kW, while tipping the scales at around 1000kg.

By comparison, the 4C is believed to weigh in at around 950kg, drawing power from a 180kW 1.75 litre turbo four.

The magazine claims Renault COO Carlos Tavares confirmed the details on the sidelines of the earlier Alpine concept's debut at Silverstone.

Last month, Tavares singled out the 4C and the Lotus Evora as key rivals for the Alpine, utilising a two-seat layout and a mid-engined configuration.

The Alpine car is expected to feature a number of retro styling throwbacks, all wrapped around a spaceframe chassis utilising steel, aluminium and composite elements.

A launch date within three years has been hinted for this first new Alpine, suggesting the new model will appear some time in 2015 or 2016.
