Fuel Gauge Inconsistency

​Has anybody had any abnormalities with the amount of fuel your gauge shows ?

Last week my car had been showing half a tank of fuel. Upon driving home after work I noticed the gauge was off the clock showing no fuel with the gauge pinned to below empty.

I went straight to the gas station and put $40 worth of fuel in, as i didnt want to risk it.
Upon turning the car on it showed a full tank....... not right .....

Has been about 4 days showing a full tank. Jumped in today and its showing me about a third full.

Has anybody had this happen to them before ?
Or any ideas of the possible issue.

i have a lot more fuel in the first half of my tank than the second half :p
the light comes on with ~10L left in the tank...

I find when fuel light comes on it very consistent with the amount of fuel left in tank. Other wise the gauge is a useless as a condom vending machine in the Vatican

I know what your saying SO. I totally agree, my car does that as well.


I probably didn't explain myself properly.
How can my cars fuel gauge go from a fully pinned full tank and the next time I drive it, it's showing me a third of a tank. Like somebody has siphoned 2/3 of fuel from my car.

My other similar scenario was when my car was just under half full, next time I drove it, it was pinned empty

it wasn't the siphon phantom because the car has been in different spots both times, but they have been on back to back fuel ups.

Could be a dodgy tank sender. E85 can corrode parts on the tank level sender if you have ever run it.
