Hey Guys,
Just got a new OEM turbo on my 6mps.
however it doesnt pull as hard as the old turbo.
feels very weak. and theres alot of whistling going on everytime i hit the accelerator.
my mechanic doesnt think theres a problem.
but i know it doesnt feel right.
any ideas?
Sound like they've used the turbo from a cx7. It's something like k04-20 where you're after a k04-22. The inlet side of the 20 is much smaller than the 22 which would explain the lack of power generated

i have a check engine light on, and apparently the oxygen sensors gone.
so hes gonna have another look at the turbo when he replaces the sensor.
well my mechanic ordered the wrong o2 sensor.
he also reckons that may be the cause of the power loss.
Did you get the turbo checked and make sure there are no leaks? Doesn't sound like the mechanic is having much luck.

well new sensor is in. engine light off.
problem still there.
car still does not pull like it used to.
still alot of whistling noise.
have booked in with mazda tomorrow for them to have a look.
might sound weird, but it's worth checking all your hoses and clamps... do this when the car is cold though, just try and twist/pull on each connection, if they're not tight it'll be immediately obvious.
if the noise is coming from right behind the dash, it's likely a boost leak which would explain the poor performance.

well mazda looked at it and reckon its sluggish because its a shit turbo.
i told them my mechanic told me it was an original turbo.
then they asked how much it cost me.
told them $300 fitted. 300 because i was getting my gearbox replaced @ $1500 or else it would of been about $600 for the turbo.
mazda said that it was f*ken cheap because their turbos go for $4000.
im still not 100% satisfied though, cos the whistling doesnt seem normal.
(and again mazda said the whistling is because of the cheap turbo)
it even whistles when i accelerate slowly.
the car is so freakin slow now. its like driving a non turbo.
its not the reason i bought the car.
