Costs more to buy, much more to maintain, more to insure (especially in a few years when the typical fully sick hectic bro cuz crowd inevitably gets into them) and has less practical storage and seating space. Will use more fuel too.

Depends on what you call an all-round car see, the GT-R only wins at being faster.

I paid $138k for a new 2010
Servicing is on average $500-$700, major services are $1500
Insurance $880 (Suncorp)
Storage space - large boot for 2 prams + groceries, 2 kids in the back (either in baby seats or stock seats) ISO Fix compliant fittings all round
72ltr tank gets 550kms
0-100 in 3.2seconds - my 3yr old tells me every time to launch it harder and faster.... Priceless

Changing subject, the A45 looks the goods, and will be the cheapest AMG available. I think if you're in the market for an Evo X, or Subaru STi Spec R, go the AMG. Far better bang for your buck, and for not much more.

About the gearboxes, what of it? Who knows that issues these will have. You cant argue that the R35 isnt a better all round car than the A45.

Being that R35 is twice the price new I don't think the A45 is half as good

It's all pointless arguing anyway.
I'm a member of a few Mercedes clubs, I know a lot of Mercedes owners, and the thought of buying a Nissan GTR wouldn't even cross their minds.
The vast majority of Mercedes owners are long term owners, once they buy one, that all they ever buy after.
The whole point of the new A class (so including this AMG) was to introduce a new younger generation to Mercedes ownership.
And looking at the owners of A class mercedes I've seen, its worked.
The market the AMG is looking at is those who want a more grown up, better built, more comfortable EVO/STI
I initially wanted an A250 sport. Out of my price range unfortunately

As much as I respect them for what they can do, like an evo, I just don't WANT one...

If someone walked up to me and gave me the keys, I'd happily take them... But if I was paying out of pocket, my money would be going elsewhere
