    Exposed: New Mazda3

Leaked photos of the all-new Mazda3 reveal an entirely new look for Australia’s top-selling car.
Due on sale in 2013 images of a car very close to the look of the all-new Mazda3 were posted by UK website Auto Express and are said to have been delivered to the office of the company “in an unmarked envelope”.
The new Mazda3 is expected to be unveiled at a motor show earlier in 2013, with sales rumoured to begin late next year.
Speaking to Drive in Australia ahead of this week’s 2012 Sydney motor show Mazda president and CEO Takashi Yamanouchi said the new Mazda3 was a key focus for the brand and a car “I have high expectations [for]”.

“Mazda is focusing its resources on B, C and C/D passenger cars and crossovers,” said Yamanouchi. “We intend to, from various aspects, try to enrich the [small car] product that we offer.”
Yamanouchi confirmed the 3 – which is Mazda’s best-selling car locally and the first imported car to top the sales charts when it overtook the Commodore in 2011 – would be “fully adapting the whole gamut of SkyActiv technology”.
SkyActiv is the marketing term Mazda gives to its new generation of lighter bodies and more efficient engines and transmissions, which are aimed at reducing fuel use by up an average of 30 per cent.
While Mazda is planning more alliances with other car makers – such as the one it has confirmed with Fiat to jointly develop a sports car which will be the Mazda MX-5 - Yamanouchi said the volumes of models such as the Mazda3 would allow it to be a Mazda-only model.
“We have enough mass to allow us our own unique product,” he said, confirming that the soon-to-be-replaced 2, 3, as well as the planned new CX-3 small soft-roader and new 6 and CX-5.
But Mazda is looking to licence its SkyActiv technology.
The 3 will also be the first car to pick up a rotary-powered plug-in hybrid engine, which Yamanouchi confirmed would be sold in Japan from 2013.
According to Auto Express, Mazda UK has said the pictures are digital illustrations that have been created to show how the 3 could look, rather than exactly how it will look when the brand’s new design language is applied to its top-selling model.
While some details may change, they’re understood to be close to the production version.
The images show the new model will share a similar front-end design to the new Mazda6 mid-size models and the CX-5 and CX-9 SUVs. All boast the company’s new Kodo design theme that is being rolled out across the range.
Standout elements include the chrome strip that runs from the triangulated grille to the top, centre-most point of the headlights.
The boot of the hatchback features a far more rounded appearance, while the profile image of the sedan shows just how closely the new 3 will follow in its bigger brother, the 6’s, footsteps, with tail-lights that look as though they’re floating on top of the metal finishing off the look.
The new Mazda3 is expected to be fitted with the fuel-sipping 2.0-litre petrol engine as is currently seen in the SP20 SkyActiv variant, as well as the new SkyActiv diesel engine available in the CX-5 and upcoming new Mazda6.
Mazda Australia public relations manager Steve Maciver said the pictures may give a good idea of how it will look, but it’s not the real car.
“We have not released any images nor any information on the new or next-generation Mazda3,” Maciver says. “Officially, we haven’t released any information or pictures of the new 3 – so the pictures you’ve got are not of the new Mazda3.”
Maciver did suggest, though, that new-look versions of the Mazda3 and the smaller Mazda2 city car aren’t too far away.
“We haven’t announced timing for next-generation 3. Obviously, looking at what we’ve unveiled at the Sydney motor show this week, you’ve seen that CX-9 and MX-5 are both taking the ‘Kodo’ design language on board. The two other cars that are obviously important to us that haven’t yet got that treatment are Mazda2 and Mazda3,” Maciver says.
“Yes they will come with both Kodo and Skyactiv at some point, but we haven’t yet announced launch timing on that.”

Oh how i wish manufacturers will forget this stupid "family face" fad. While it might suit one model, doesn't mean it will suit all of them.
Hybrid Rotary sounds interesting. Eagerly awaiting for someone to say "first front wheel drive rotary" .....*cough-citroen-cough*

doesnt look too bad imo. would need to see better shots from afar. Im sure the MPS should they continue making it, would be a looker seeming they are generally more aggressively designed.

it beats the current happy face design. sorry current gen 2 owners :P

Dont like it from the rear...looks too much like a SUV rear. Side profile is very nice, particularly in the sedan
