ahh well...
the problem with the PG turbo is that people have had problems running these things on a stock tune. Not hitting boost targets etc etc.. these are an upgraded unit.
The BNR has different more efficient internals, but is matched as a drop in unit.
You get what you pay for it may seem.

Looking a bit up with local labor.
The guys at Allstar Tuning Systems can do a rebuild with about a 5 day turn around (they have a few of the turbos on the go atm). They said...
"Our rebuilds include a larger shaft size, machining the rear and front
housing for larger wheel's and complete overhaul,"
for around $2150, so a pretty powerful upgrade. After market ECU and other upgrades to make the most of it, but car should drive fine untill i get that sort of stuff.
Trying the local guys at ATP - Advanced Turbo Performance - Turbocharger Repairs Rebuilds Replacements and Sales, Melbourne Australia tomorrow, if no go then I'll probably organise something with All Star Tuning.

Trying to look local, but assessing all options now. Downtime may be inevitable.
I'm waiting for a reply from BNR about time frames, but being overseas it's kind of night time atm. I'll give GCG a call tomorrow morning.

a much cheaper option is to try the bnoon banjo bolt.

he sells them for 30 bucks
also PTP sells a pill that will increase the vacuum in your crankcase. Hence help the oil drain back out of the turbo back into the crankcase.

I personally would be doing this first before I pull and change turbos, as Ive read about a lot of guys getting a new turbo, and it still smokes due to shitty PCV.. Bloody mazda.

Might be worth a GB if possilbe on this Forum. (on the PCV insert, or do you need the bolt as well??)
Im pretty sure most people would be happy to hand over minimal $$$$$ to fix the smoking turbo drama , or just to have the parts on hand if the smoking problem starts.
Id say a few of us have been putting off a DP because of it......
Anyone else interested?????

i can make the bolts.. prob for less than bnoon wants..
the ptp plug is a little hit and miss miss size.. as I has to take a fair bit of meat off it to get it to fit..
if I made those it would be made of mild steel, his are aluminum, which are easier to take a bit of material off

Well the turbo is off the car, and the specialist has told me the rear seal is bad. So even some flow restriction or whatever like that could just be a temp fix.
From my research, it appears there is more than one problem... too much pressure, seal is too small and for me add in 80,000km so potentially getting worn (it is unbalanced too).
It's getting pulled apart Monday, and I'll see what he says.

Got the car back. Turbo has been rebuilt, balanced etc. Also had the oil hose replaced and breathing stuff checked out.
Seems to be fine now, not smoking. Also spools smoother, less high pitched noise when cold.

Too much... about $2k including rebuild and labour to remove/replace turbo and the oil/breather lines around it.
If it happens to anyone else I'd recommend getting a turbo from the states!

yeh guys i just got my cp-e downpipe yesterday and it has them symptoms i have done 90k's and still at idle it'll start smoking after 1 min or less but last night i didnt boost it home and left it smoke was gone. Now this morning i gave it boost and now its back ... im out of warranty for about more then 4 months.. i told them early on that i noticed oil was being lower on my dipstick and they said they would do a pressure test but instead just explained these cars burn a heap of oil anyway.... idiots..
now im looking into getting a turbo rebuilt around sydney or maybe the bnr option...?

Was thinking of going bnr stage 1 was there much modding you needed to do to fit? How much was it plus postage?

Off the top of my head it cost $1200 for the stage 3, $200 core charge because its cheaper then sending an old turbo to the US, $120 postage.. so about $1520usd but after the exchange and fees it was about $1600AUD
I needed a new intake pipe to suit the 2.25" input on the turbo (can also be 2.5" i believe), turbo water feed line has to be replaced (made my own for under $50), one of the heat shields on the back side of the turbo had to be cut away slightly to allow the wastegate actuator to fit, boost control solenoid has to be reloacted. So apart from those minor things it bolts straight on
