    Default Smoking Turbo

    Ok so i have read a heap of shit about the crappy turbos and the seals failing on them, my car is smoking pretty bad on idle, i was going to take it to my mechanic for a proper diagnosis but am i just wasting my money and should just get a BNR? My question is should i just bite the bullet and order the new turbo and then get it installed because it will most likely be the turbo seals?

    100% satisfaction that it is your seals wouldn't hurt, it wouldn't be too expensive either.

    But saying that sounds 95% like seals anyway, mine is doing it too it isn't too often only once or twice a week.

    It is an 05 model so a few years lol. My car smokes everytime i drive it after it warms up at idle

    How will the mechanic determine that its the turbo seals? Its not really something you can inspect.

    bugger, to test if it is seals when it starts smoking push the accelerator and rev to about 2500-3k if it stops smoking while doing this id be pretty comfortable saying its the seals

    Yeah it does, i often do that to stop the smoking at the lights lol

    I might be having the same issue, would the new turbo be covered under warranty if its got a downpipe?

    Umm, looking at your sig I think the DP is the least of your worries mate .
    That said, mine was replaced and I had the mods list in my sig... I just put the stock airbox back in to make it look better, and the stock BOV.
    Mine was replaced outside of warranty for free, along with the revised PCV system from the Gen 2.

    My experience with my gen 2 is the stage 3 isn't a straight bolt on. Stage 2 isn't as simple as it may sound and stage 1 is no different to the oem. My advice is to do your homework. Mrt did my gen 2 upgrade to a stage 2 if your based in Sydney and looking for someone with mps experience.

    It is an MPS 6, from what i have read seems pretty straight forward, i trust my mechanic to do a good job.

    Stage 1 simple only have to readjust/bend slighty the steel water line to fit up onto centre rotator assembly. stage 2 simple you only need a 30cm water hose length and boost hose and T piece for boost line. Stage 3 same as stage 2 ( but will need other parts to make it work efficiently )....

    The hardest part or most painfull was the oil return line, due to the centre rotator assembly being smaller the steel return line has to be stretched a bit when putting it back on you must put both bolts in the turbo and do up evenly VERY SLOW so you dont strip them...

    Ok so i have taken the car to my mechanic to look at and has taken some of the parts to see where the burning oil is coming from, he explained that there was no oil coming from the turbo that he could see (looked in intercooler piping and took the TIP off etc) the only place he was able to find oil was the PVC system (throttle body?), does this sound right as i was positive it would be the seals lol. I might try and take it to Mazda directly as they might be able to better diagnose as they may have seen it before. Anyone have any ideas? could it just be the PVC system and not the seals? and final question if it is not the turbo then replacing it will not fix, is this correct? Thanks all, ill try upload a video of the smoke

    BTW i have read about Bnoon bolt? and the PVC pill has anyone tried these before with success? sorry if this has been answered before.

    the gen 2's got an upgraded PCV system that fixed this issue...
    you might be out of luck with all your mods etc @Jmac had it done to his tho

    if you rev it and the smoke goes away on idle, its the seals.
    there is an upgraded PCV system though its expensive, new rocker cover etc etc.

    I*thought if it was the seals it would smoke all the time onboost etc not just at idle?
