Yeh I hear you. There is a set on eBay - 18x9 +42....pretty cheap, need some work, but could be good for someone.
Was thinking with some nice rubber, white writing, and a hefty drop they could look nice.

Errybody -
what are your thoughts on these specs for an 08 MPS 3
18x8.5 +53
18x9.5 +45
I know the fronts will sit pretty sweet - fairly conservative - but just wanted to check inner clearance to strut will be ok?
And rears will be borderline agressive, but a bit of camber and a tyre stretch should tuck them up?
most aggro specs i could find on here were @dru running 18x9 +45 with 245's on there, or @Bankai running 18x9.5 +35.
New wheels fitted from Rx8 pz edition... OZ prodrive 10 spokes.
Weight of 9.8kilo compared to 11kilo for stock rim. Stock tyres fitted for the moment, untill I can afford some 225/40's
Versatune, BNR turbo, 3" catted downpipe, HTP 3" turbo inlet, CPE diff brace/intercooler/intake/enginemount/towplate, Autotech fuel pump, Sure juggernaught, Eibach springs, oil/boost gauges, JBR EGR delete/catch can/Wheel spacers, Corksport boost tubes/rad cap/strut brace/clutch line, NGK iridium IX Plugs, De-cat&custom exhaust, Turbosmart BPV, VG Sharkfin, Snow stage 2 meth with aquamist jet/parts
301whp 341 lb/ft at the moment
I think Bankai is 9" wide and 38 or something you want clear the struts you need anything less then a 35 or 38 on 9 and will need like 28 with 9.5s im looking at 18x9.5 Rota D with +40 offset and there isn't a chance it will fit atm i'm missing coils are front by about 10mm and rears are tight all round with standard wheels and 225/45's unless you want camber or huge guard mods i think Bankai's are the most aggressive you can go... Be happily proven wrong as I am in love with the Rota D's and want 2.75" .
With your widths above a 8.5 wide rim with maybe +48 might work and yeah 9.5 would need 30 i'd think then your like 43mm pokier then stock., what height will you be at?

Jeez. Punctuation would have made that a lot easier but i see what you're saying. I think. Bugger.
Yep - you're right - front needs a 5mm spacer and rears need a 10mm to clear struts. Bugger that.
18x8.5 +48 just clear coilovers 1-2mm in it!
Lol sorry was on phone, yeah 8.5 +48 seems about right unless you want me poke :P
So if you use http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp approx 10-15 mm internal less is the limit.

Just to clarify, I run 17x9 +45...5mm spacers up front. 245 AD08s which run wider then standard tyre, there is USA guys running 255's no probs
True: my RX8 rims (18x8 +50) give similar clearance and less than a pinky finger clearance to the BC coilovers. I dare only run 225/40 at the front because of that. And viewed from the front the car actually looks like it needs a lower offset to get the wheel slightly more flush.
Fresh pic:
Same offset as standard rx8 rims.. 50 I think is it?
Also they are fitted to JBR 5mm spacers and 215/45 tyres for now.
9.8 kilo per alloy compared to 11 kilo for stock rim

Colour and wheel style looks swweeet on this car..TOP JOB moaar low though would look AWSOME!
Here are some new pics of my car. It now has 235/40 Kumho ku36 embedded on my rpf1 18x 9.5. My suspension setup is Bilsteins b8 on Eibach prokit springs with whiteline swaybars. Rear tyres are sitting on neg 1 camber for looks and to clear the guards

This is more a question for the guys they have fitted 8" or wider wheels and have coilovers, but did you manage to clear the Height locking ring on the front struts? I've had a close look at mine and with the OEM Rims and 225 tyres i've got all of 2 -3 mm of room there :S. Not sure how members have fitted 8-9" inch wide rims and 235 rubber on them without a crazy offset. I could lower the front more (5-10) mm but then it maybe too low.
Just want to see what people have done as guys have used wider rims with 38-48 offsets.
I haven't done a test fit with rims but things aren't looking good.
Rim specs i'm interested in are 8.75" +35 offset
Thanks for any help guys

@Bakis i have 18x8" +45 offset on mine with 235/40 tires and i had the mazdaspeed coilovers.
Heres a pic of when i had them set up for the track. I could have gone about another inch lower at the front and rear. The guys that installed them said i still had room where it wasnt going to hit any of the coilover parts and such.

Hey Bakis. Reading thought the wheel threads; you and I share a liking for similar wheel stances! Like Chris said; you need that 45 offset for the 235 tyres on an 8" rim. My thoughts on rims seem to match yours; I too am chasing 8.75 +35 (XXR rims?) but I think the amount of poke would make it hard to deal with. Also; when the rims are that far out you have to go really low or else it just looks wrong! And I don't think I can bring myself to go any lower than I am. I already struggle a little with daily driving. The best compromise I reckon is 8.5 +38 which can be seen with the Evo X Enkei wheels;
But once you're out to 9 inch things get aggressive...
I guess there's a limit. But I cannot see 8.5 or wider working with any less than a 38 offset for my coilover clearance.
Interesting topic mate!
Xxr 527's? Yeh I wanted those too. I have seen it done - there is a red car with gold ones but it looks like ass. You don't get the concave effect on the 527s unless you go for the +20 and that ain't ever gonna work...
