Thread: New rotors & pads for my MPS6

Default New rotors & pads for my MPS6

I’m looking for front pads & rotors for my MPS6. I was just wondering what would provide the closest to stock set up for the replacement of my rotors & pads for my MPS6? I'm not looking for anything too over the top and if I can get this with less dust and no squeaking & squealing that would be fantastic (as this is predominantly the wife’s car and she will never leave me alone if it is noisy).

My mechanic has offered me the RDA rotors & RDX pads. I'm not so sure of the product as I’ve never had anything from them before. However I am also interested in the DBA rotors and the QFM pads.

Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers, Pete

I'm running slotted RDA front rotors and Remsa pads that I got from GSL. I'm very happy with this combination. I have never run DBA rotors on my MPS so I can't give you a comparasion, but the Remsa pads are awesome, they can be a little squeally at low temps, but they have a nice bite. I also flushed my fluid with super dot 4, which... didn't really change anything (but it's super).

Downsides: with the RDA rotors, make sure you paint the hub of the rotor as unlike the DBA ones they're not painted. The pads are a wee bit dusty, but no where near as bad as the stockers.

Default New rotors & pads for my MPS6

Hi mate, just been talking to Greg at GSL. I asked about DBA 4000 series, his suggestion, the T3

    http://www.dba.com.au/products/clubspec-t/4000-t3/

Plus combine with Remsa Street pad.

Setup sound pretty good to me. I'm not into the bling of crossed drill anyway, buy more bite would be nice.

Anyone had any experience with any of these setups?

I got a close-up of the Ferrari Pony on the back of a mates 360 Modena after my brakes failed due to over heating. Had to use the gearbox to decelerate after I realised I couldn't afford to replace Ferrari carbon fibre!

Went with DBA 4000 series slotted and remsa pads. They're pretty good, however for me I found I was still getting a bit of brake fade through spirited driving on/off brakes.

So now running the QFM pads. I get a bit of squeaking (although my mate doesn't with same set-up) but she pulls up well at any speed no problems. Can't do anything about brake dust, it's always going to be there.

On occasion I have had sparks fly half way up my window from the pads but the braking power is impressive when complimented with some decent tyres

With great power comes great fuel consumption...

    Pete,

RDA rotors are decent enough quality, we do stacks of them. RDX though we've had a fair bit of dramas with in terms of both noise, and particularly excessive rotor wear when cold (not dissimilar to Bendix Ultimate).

Definitely pad fading, not fluid boiling? Remsa are rated to 650, you'd have to have cherry red rotors to get genuine pad fade.

Which QFM' did you go to, HPX or A1RM.

When I was using A1RM's a good track days worth of abuse would make the squeal go away.

Remsa pads are great on the street but don't bite as hard as the A1RM's do.
A1RM's are ridiculously good for how cheap they are. Best pad on the market imo.

Hi Pete, I ended up with DBA Street Series slotted and drilled rotors after the supplier offered them for the same price as standard rotors (which were out of stock). I have been running these with Hawk HPS pads which have proven to be quite good with low dust. While I have been pretty happy with this combo, next time I would get the standard DBA rotors as I do not do track days, and the standard setup is more than adequate for me (and still features 'Kangaroo Paw' ventilation). There is always the ongoing arguments for and against slotting and cross-drilling, but on a street setup I would rather have more pad-to-rotor contact.

I had also used Mintex pads originally but would not recommend them. They were incorrectly sized, and rattled in the cradle. The Hawks were a night and day difference.

Not sure what was causing the fade to be honest. Stepped on the brakes and wasn't slowing down. I can get the rotors I have now glowing orange with the QFM pads.

Uh..the A1RM sounds familiar. Got them from you guys, car pulls up well now but it's been a while since I really get to put the brakes to work.

I think it was the stock brakes on the MPS we got smoking on a car cruise once...woops!

I use DBA t3 and remsa pads. I need to get the fluid changed to really test this setup as it gets spongey currently. I'd prefer a better initial bite with the remsa pads, but I'm assuming that this is a trade off for better rotor wear. The bite of the remsa pads is similar to stock but with marginally less dust.

The qfm a1rm pads I read eats rotors, so wouldn't be a good street pad. Any suggestions for remsa type characteristics with better initial bite? @gslrallysport?

We're actually developing a pad with SCH industries that will be in a Brakes Direct box, and fill that void exactly! Will be a pad very similar to EBC Red, but with a more useable friction level and a lot cheaper!

In the meantime, possibly QFM HPX as it has a very stable cold-hot friction. If you're not specifically after a performance pad, but want better initial bite, then I might look at a pad called Horsepower. Otherwise EBC Red, but again, the price is the killer...
