Default Castrol Response Super DOT4 brake fluid on special at Repco, $6 per litre

As per the subject, Castrol Response Super DOT4 brake fluid is currently on special at Repco for $6 per 500ml, pretty much half price. Not sure how long the sale lasts.

    Thought some may be interested.

There is a reason it is $6/$12.

We don't all do track days or need 300 degree plus brake fluid...thanks for your informative post...

By the way, what would you recommend that offers equal performance for anywhere near that money?

Gsl says it's fine for street use, and the only people I know who have needed anything more are those who track their cars, and jase, who murders his brakes

For a regular A to B car, there is nothing wrong with the stuff. Most street suitable brakes fluids cost very little like the said Castrol product.

A $4 bottle of DOT4 stuff from a $2 shop will get you the same performance I guess.

So...have you ever actually used it?

I think you missed the part where I said suggest an alternative which offers anywhere near the same performance for the money...

    Yes.

Agreed - bang for buck, it is a good product. Will handle street and some twisties action with ease.

Correct. And in fact, generally the higher the fluid is rated, the quicker it absorbs moisture. So unless you're doing track work, a Super Dot 4 is perfect.

Ah nope. Super Dot 4 (otherwise known as Dot 5.1) is a decent step up from regular Dot 4. Normal Dot 4 is good for about 230 degrees dry, whilst Super Dot 4 is good for about 280 degrees. Considering an entry level track fluid is about 312 degrees (such as the TRW GP600 Dot 4 Racing Brake Fluid that we recommend), Super Dot 4 is closer to that than it is regular Dot 4.

I will give you one thing though, it doesn't matter where you buy regular Dot 4 ($2 shop is fine!) as both Dot 3 and Dot 4 (not 5, 5.1 or any of the racing brake fluid variants) are FORMULATION standards, not PERFORMANCE standards, so you'll get exactly the same product regardless of how much it costs, the brand or where you bought it from.
