Today's Cars Guide in the Telegraph states that the next MPS3 will have 240kw!
They have a one page write up on the next 3, with only one sentence on the MPS3- will be unveiled at the Geneva motor show in March...sorry thats all they say...
Noe sure how they are going to get that power down, but I do like the numbers...
i hope they are right (really good chance they aren't), because I'm sold!
50 more wasps would be just what my right foot needs
If that is correct it will be a monster.
I would of thought if this was correct that it would have been all over the net by now though...
I just read this article from the 25th Nov:
http://www.goauto.com.au/mellor/mell...25750A007FDF22
Quotes:
Mazda insiders told GoAuto they considered employing all-wheel drive hardware underneath their smallest MPS model, but decided against it in the interests of retaining a sub-$40,000
Therefore expect the new flagship to emerge with a lightly retuned version of the current model’s 190kW/380Nm 2.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, driving the front wheels through a six-speed manual transmission and a modified differential – not the automatically torque-biasing limited-slip Quaife diff seen in Ford’s new and closely-related Focus RS.
The new Mazda3 MPS was allegedly benchmarked against the Lotus Elise and Mitsubishi’s Lancer Evo.
It will be interesting watching what develops over the next few months...
those are some sexy number if true. 50kw increase is a bit hard to believe though, especially if they are using the same engine
yeah i agree.
i think in reality we might see bit of an increase. maybe 20kW max, but big improvements in traction control, hopefully a vast improvement on the current boost limiting setup
240kw is a little hard to believe, it's possible but some refinements would have to be done on the existing engine, not to mention stronger internals and the restrictive air flow and dump pipes, CAT's etc would have to be something a wee bit better. The front wheel drive setup would need to be one hell of a setup and if they are refining the current setup in the new model. It would have to be impressive. A production line car doing this? Sure it can be done but with with warranty, etc, they would have to ensure risk is minimal. Can't see it happening, not that much of a gain anyway.

however, that said, we can only hope
I am somewhat of a pessimist on this topic. I actually think we'll be lucky to retain 190kW.
240kw would be nice but i would suspect we will be lucky to get just over 200. Hopefully they improve the handling a bit and that with the cosmetic changes, will probably be the new MPS
Maybe it's a typo 204Kw - A whole lot more realistic, I think.
that would make more sense
I was really hoping for the Revo-knuckle diff, but sounds like they're going cheap on us.... 204kW sounds realistic on Aus Fuel, using the 2.3ltr MZR DISI.
Hopefully Maz has learnt the lessons from the engine poppers in the US - need all fully (sic) forged internals!
