Default Auto lock - GENII - It's cool.

Hey all. Maybe I'm the last to have this done, but I had the dealer activate the Autolock feature compatible with the Smart Key system.

Well its cool. The first change you notice is that the car beeps once when you get out and close the door.

Then, as you start walking away, the car beeps again, and it's locked.

You only get about 2m, before it locks, so no risk of any slimy bugger getting in as you turn your back.

Anyway, thought you'd like to know.

    Brad.

You might be able to but it would need to be timer based as opposed to proximity based as with the Gen II prox key.

    For example:

    - turn car off + remove key
    - open door, get out and close door (timer starts)
    - if no other doors are opened, then lock the car after X secs

I bet you can hold the unlock key and all your windows open. I love that JDM feature. Should be standard in Oz.

Does the Auto-Lock feature also cut the Engine if it is on whilst the advanced key is more then 2M away from the car?

Reason being is i like to let me car idle abit sometimes whilst i do other things.

i asked my dealer about this a couple of weeks ago at the service, and they said they couldn't do it for safety reasons, ie if someone got out of the car, with kids inside, kids automatically get locked inside...

this was slightly annoying as i have never had some children in my car and don't plan to.

what dealers have been unlocking this feature?

That does not make sense, I think the dealer is an idiot. The car will only lock when the key in on the outside of the car. So if it locks and you did not want it to, just unlock it again. YOU HAVE THE KEY.

I wish some people would think things through.

I would have just said it's my damned car, I'm paying you for the service, you'll do as I damned well ask.

    + what Pete says above

+ there's this little thing on the inside of the door handle called a DOOR LOCK. It functions in both the locked and unlocked positions.... Amazing huh?

I just got my software updated and couldn't find any option for 'smart lock' but we did activate 'special ignition' function. Any ideas what this does? Had to have the smart key away from the car to activate.

hmmm well it does seem like a really good feature to have, so I might do a ring around next week and see if i can find a dealer that will do it on the spot and hopefully at no cost... shouldn't take much more then plugging it into their computer and clicking the mouse a few times???

and does it work the opposite way? ie unlocking when you come back within 2m after it has locked?

Nope, doesn't work the opposite way.

    The dealer is a tool.

Firstly, who is locking there kids in the car?

Ok, if you have too, surely it's better it happens automatically if you forget when you're dashing into IGA for milk.

But if there's any issue, can't they just unlock themselves from the inside (unless they're babies, then you REALLY shouldn't be leaving them unattended)?
