Default Ordered a Clarion NX-501a Today

Well, I bit the bullet this morning and went into Audiotech in Tuggeranong and paid a deposit for the replacement sound system for the car today. Getting a Clarion NX-501a installed. Will be linked in with the bose and steering wheel controls and am also having a reverse parking camera installed.

Stuff will be ordered in on Monday, should be there Tuesday, but they have asked if I can wait till the following week for the install as they are busy. No big drama as I have to wait till pay day for some more money and definitely don't want them to rush it. Will post some pics once it is installed.....

This type of update hasn't been covered much for the GENII's.

Lots of pics and details of the functions will be very interesting.

The stereo in the car is ok, but sounds like this system should be superior.

The reverse camera had cropped up a couple of times. I this I need a front one now as well Good Luck.

Its being mounted in a Gen II. Will include a new fascia plate, connection to the steering wheel controls and linked into the Bose as well.

As soon as it is in, will post some pics on how everything looks and give details on how everything functions.........

Do you think they could take photos during the install?

    Hey Brad,

Sure..... I more than likely won't be there for the install, but will make sure my camera is charged and in the car and will get the guys to take pics as they take out the factory unit and install the Clarion. Considering I have been going to the same place for about 20 years for car audio, pretty sure that they wont mind......

Rang them today just to confirm that they had everything for the install, as I have read that you need one module for the steering wheel controls and one for the Bose, and this is what they have:

    NX-501A
Dash Kit - fascia plate and brackets
    Antenna Adapter
Clarion Lead for the steering wheel controls
    Reverse Parking Camera
and the interesting part - a Mazda Interface Kit.

Apparently, this Mazda Interface Kit (and I have not been able find it on the net) allows them to link in both the steering wheel controls and the Bose in one module. I said to them that I thought you needed one for each, but he said he has researched it, and even their supplier said that is all that was needed, and this Mazda Interface kit is all that is needed.....

But yeah, the pics and write up will be up next Thursday evening......

I'll have to wait till it's installed to see what the interface kit is. I only have a total price at the moment for all the 'requried stuff' to install it into the car.

Hey Mikey, this is an upgrade that is very wife friendly. Will be watching with interest.

Have you asked about the need for sound deadening in the doors/boot?

    Hey Brad,

I am very much looking forward to the install..... it should look very good indeed. Am actually going to Audiotech this afternoon to talk to them about the camera. The one that they are going to use is suspended from a bracket, and there is no where to really mount it.... even if you look at the gap where the number plate light is - there is really no where to secure a camera. I have found a couple on the net. One is form an Audio shop in Sydney where you actually replace the number plate light with a new unit that uses the factory mounting points. It is actually made for a Mazda 3. This unit gives you a camera and a new number plate light in one unit and it will be nicely hidden. This would be my first option, the other is a flush mounting camera which gets installed in a similar fashion to a reverse parking sensor - this would be very neat as well. But ultimately I will be guided by their advice and of course on the camera that gives the best picture. The flush mount one has night vision too... Will post what they recommend this afternoon later this evening.

Have not gone down the sound deadening path yet.... will consider that after I have the unit installed and saved some money again

Ok.... this is the camera that I am getting:

    Attachment 9173

So, they remove one of the number plate light units and I think what happens is that the cover comes off the exisiting unit, the exisiting unit plugs into the clear lens part of the camera unit and it clicks back in where it came out from and the camera will be visible just below the hole where the nubmer plate lights are - will be nice and inconspicuous.... though it gost me an extra $50 on the price that I have, but I think that it will be a very nice finish indeed. More of a factory finish I think and definitely worth the extra cost.

Very Neat Mikey. This one doesn't have nite vision right? Not such a big deal I suppose, your reverse lights probably throw enough light. The system will look OEM, and easy to access in case of faults.

Hey Brad, yeah will look OEM which will be cool. Not sure about the camera. I have looked at other ones on the net made by the same manufacturer and the outer circle of some of them look like they have the infrared lights with the camera in the middle. The GV41s also seems to have the outer circle and the inner circle where the camera is.... will know for sure on Thursday. Not overly concerned, as you said, with the placement of the camera the nubmer plate lights and reverse lights will throw some light.

Well the car is going in on Thursday morning for the new head unit and I have been stressing over the connection to both the Bose and Steering wheel. The reason why? Well every where I have read seems to indicate that you need a module for the Bose and a module for the steering wheel where the guys who are installing mine said that they only got one module that does both. No searches on the net turned up anything so I rang them this morning just to get the name of the module so I could research it.

It is a Connects2 CTSMZ005 Stalk Adapter for Mazda 3 with Amplified System (Bose).... so it does do both.... I can relax a bit now. They make one for non amplified as well and it comes without the separate lead you see in the picture below. I am guessing that this lead is for the Bose part. Also comes with the lead to plug into the Clarion to allow the steering wheel to control the head unit.

    Attachment 9235

    But for anyone interested:

    Connects 2,Car Audio integration specialists

And here is the installation guide:

    https://www.connects2.com/Instructions/CTSMZ005.pdf

If you buy it in AUS - costs $249.00 in the UK it costs around 70.00 GBP - not sure how much I am paying was just given an overall cost for all the stuff to fit into a Mazda - i.e. face plate, aerial adapter and this module.

Will post pics after the install.

    MickeyACT,

That's the unit i have as well! i mean the CTSMZ005.. Yeah i got it from a company called "Advancediced.com.au". (they are in brisbane). It supports most major brands (with the CT plug specific to the headunit). Looks like it's almost on track! when you get it install, i guarantee that smile of your face will be bigger than a Gen II smile
