    Default Optimum Opti-Coat

    Hi Guys

This is one new product that you won't know about (because it's not listed on our website) and is specifically for those who prefer a "set and forget" type of car care product rather than the enjoyment of waxing and polishing your car.

Opti-Coat is not a sealant or a wax. It is not a "paint protection" product. In fact we are trying to keep it away from that dodgy market. It is an aftermarket clear coat that is applied to restore and/or protect the factory clear coat indefinately. When I say indefinately, that means just like the factory paint, it will not delaminate if applied correctly by the professional.

Here are some important points about Opti-Coat.

    1. Compared to factory clear coat, Opti-Coat has far superior resistance to chemical attacks
    2. Compared to factory clear coat, fully cured Opti-Coat is much harder and resistant to marring (9 on Mohs scale of hardness)
    3. Compared to factory clear coat, Opti-Coat releases dirt and oil much easier producing an "easy clean" effect.
    4. Compared to these BS paint protection sealants Opti-Coat will not wash off or degrade over time.

We are in the process of establishing a network of professionals around Australia to apply this product. Anyone who is in the market for "paint protection" should seriously consider discussing their options with me first.

    Cheers

    Joel

Hi Joel, as one of those people who went for the (rightfully named) bullshit I'm keen to hear more.

When I bought the car I was of the understanding that the dealer would contract a professional to do my "paint protection". But alas it turned out to be the dealers "Aftermarket Specialist", the woman who sold me the product, who applied it. Gutted.

I wash my car every weekend but don't have to time to wax as well so this would suit.

    What is the finish like?
What costs are we looking at?
    Who would back the warranty?
Would it be as shiny as Dans car?

Dale: Okay, first of all, they're extremely comfortable. And second of all, at this point in your life, if you haven't seen a bulge, well, I just feel sorry for you.

    Hi Brad

The finish is as good as the surface you apply it to. So for a car that isn't straight off the showroom floor the process would be machine polishing until the paint is back to perfect (on average this removes about 2 microns of clear). You then apply the Opti-Coat which funnily enough is 2 microns thick.

What you now have at this stage is a perfect clear coat that behaves like a wax or sealant (strong water beading, easy clean) but to get it looking like Dan's all you would use Optimum Instant Detailer & Gloss Enhancer with your wash. When washing, before you dry your car you spray it on, and then dry. It will give you that little bit extra in the paint that you have obviously seen with Dan's car. Without it, your car will still look better than it did the day you bought it.

Costs and Warranty - As this is still in the development stages I will PM you.

Hi Zas, i'm also interested in this product.

Can i get some additional info as well regarding costs and warranty.

I've also got a few paint chips from daily motorway driving. Is this going to affect the application?

    Thanks.

    Hi There

The reason I PM'ed about costs and warranty is particularly because of the warranty I don't want to start ranting about these paint protection warranties and that they aren't worth the paper they are written on.

The warranty we are looking at will be against poor workmanship and premature failure of the clear coat. What we won't be entering into is warranty against bird poo, and things like that. As it is absolute crap what some people get told about this.

The Opti-Coat will protect against these types of environmental impacts. But only for so long. If you wash your car regularly and remove bird poo when you can, then you'll have no problem. Some people don't wash their car at all though, so this is a road I don't want to go down. Basically we won't be providing a warranty against variables we can't control.

The chips won't be an issue, but if you want them fixed you'll need to do it before the coating is applied.

Price wise you will be looking at under $500 for the application of the coating and the warranty. This isn't set in stone yet and is to give you a guide, and don't forget for cars that have seen road use you need to factor in preperation.

Here's something else you might find interesting to show what this product is all about. Below is a test carried out in the USA on a car with complete clear coat failure. Part of the panel was machined and the Opti-Coat applied to test if it would act as a new clear coat.

This was only over one month, so I intend to do some long term testing myself over the next year, but I'll let the images tell the story.

    AFTER

And after one month, it is still the same

    Hi Chris

We do have someone in Perth currently testing the coating. As soon as I get all this finalised with him, I'll put you in contact. He is a highly skilled detailer and you will get a very good job.

Regarding the ventureshield, the Opti-Coat wil most likely cause you problems. Once the Opti-Coat starts to dry, you can't even reapply it over itself as it just causes the coating to bead! What I will have to do though is check with the chemist from Optimum.

That's a good point. I have the Duco Scratch Film on my car as well. Clear Car Bra - Paint Protection Film for Car or Bike

I made the decision to put this over my whole bonnet and bumper. I don't regret it, I'm stone chip free after 12 months and a trip to Emerald, but I suspect it won't be as shiny as the Opti Coat...Never mind...I still need shiny!

    Hi guys

For those who are interested in the Opti-Coat clear coat, we have a number of different professionals in possession of this product in a number of states (NSW, VIC, SA, QLD, WA).

Warranty etc. is still in process, but if you are interested in having the coating applied but not necessarily interested in the additional purchase of a warranty, PM me your location and I will put you in contact with an applicator.

Here is a little video to show the affect Optimum clear coat has compared to factory clear.

    Hey Everyone,

Did abit of googling and stumbled upon a awesome extensive review performed on a brand new car that was constantly washed with dishwashing liquid over 6 months.

Take a look, i was definitely impressed!
