The Darrell Lea STIX Commodore supported by XFORCE Performance Exhaust has come away from Darwin with valuable championship points. Shane Van Gisbergen is now 5th in the championship.

Hidden Valley was the first round of the season which saw all competitors qualify on both the hard and soft tyres for the two Saturday. In the newly built chassis, Shane van Gisbergen showed great pace qualifying the Darrell Lea STIX Commodore in P5 for Race 13 and P4 for Race 14.

Saturday Races:

“We were really quick (in race 13 and 14) which showed with the Darrell Lea STIX Commodore posting the fastest lap in both race one and two."

Unfortunately on the final restart of race 13 the #97 was involved in a collision with the #2 2 of James Courtney which saw Shane van Gisbergen fall back to P12 where he would then finish. Following an investigation of the incident, James Courtney was imposed the penalty of the Loss of 25 Championship Points for causing contact with Shane van Gisbergen, Car #97 , and Garth Tander, Car #2 , at Turn 1.

"The Hidden Valley circuit has some grip so we could properly race. It was awesome for the drivers and spectators but also caused many of the incidents which we were caught up in at the end of race one" said Shane Van Gisbergen.

For race 14, SVG pedalled home strong in P5 with a new Race Lap Record of 1:07.1772 at the newly resurfaced Hidden Valley circuit.

Sunday Race:

Another strong qualifying performance by SVG for the longer 70 lap race saw the Darrell Lea STIX Commodore start out of P3 for Race 15. After a tough few rounds at Perth and Winton the TEKNO crew showed great perseverance with no mistakes in the entire race.
"We started the day well qualifying up the front of the grid. No mistakes, and we showed good pace in the race. We were still punching out some pretty good lap times towards the end of the race." said SVG as he finished in P4 for Race 15.

The Darrell Lea STIX Commodore will next be on track at the Castrol EDGE Townsville 400 Friday 10 July to Sunday 12 July.
