    Default Upper Engine Cleaning

Looking at using Subaru upper engine clean, seems to have positive results for newer engines.
Part of regular servicing for rex,s.
    Will change oil after treatment.
    ?????? opinions would be appreciated.
?????? Anyone used on regular basis.
    Thanks in advance.

I mentioned this to the chap that was looking to clean his intake manifold in another thread.

I used it in my old wrx. you pull off a vaccum line off the intake and spray half the can into the manifold. then you kick the car over whilst spraying in the other half.
you get smoke coming out the exhaust and even more smoke if you have more oil in the intake (oil mist/ coating). Most wrx use it evey 12500 at the service.
Its also suggested you do it then change the oil (as you mentioned)

Its recomended for the wrx as the intake manifold is so long there for there will be more deposits in there then the a normal intake.
after being a user of the product i cant see how it will cause any damage and it will keep the intake clean.

I pay around $16-18 per can

Im also considering using it at my next service 20,000kms (i have only 11,000kms now)

Tunehouse here in Sydney use some wiz bang stuff that they import.. maybe give them a call and ask them what they use..

It seem to have great results...

I've used Subaru UEC in the hope that the inlet valves would not become too contaminated with oil residue, which is a real problem in DI engines. But I realised that using it before an oil change was defeating the purpose.

For around the first 3000km, fresh oil goes through a period of high volatility where a lot of the lost fractions go out through the rocker cover vent and PCV valve to be deposited inside the intercooler and intake manifold.

To obtain the most value from UEC I reckon you need to use it around 3000km after an oil change when internal contamination is at its worst.

    Gone to Volvo

wont the fresh oil be contaminated with the UEC and the burn off, or will the oil sufficiently hold and suspend the crap within the oil itself?
or are you saying change the oil, 3k later use UEC and then change the oil again - every 3k?

The Subaru UEC only works within the inlet tract, so it should have no detrimental effect on the engine oil. Use it 3000km after an oil change to get most value.

Seafoam is a different story because you can chose to add some of it to the oil to clean the crank case, so you'd definitely want to change the oil after doing that.

Exactly my thoughts. All Di engines (porsche, audi,vw) suffer from this oil residue/carbon build up as no fuel passes valves. Used to use redex regulary on previous motors, worked well.
Yes oil is at its worst initially , using fully synthetic 5w30 . Only use 98ron fuel , to assist in injector clean.
My plan is to now change oil at 10000,not 5k as previous. Use UEC and do a intercooler clean every 10000. Not totally convinced of design of DISI and sludge /oil/carbon build up.

i have 10500 kms on my car now (2009 bl) and i have had the cooler off 3 times in the last 3000kms as we are building a frontmount for it and you wont have to clean at 10,000kms there is nothing in there. at this rate i might do it at around 30,000kms or later.

I do alot of kms for work about 3000-3500 a month and i am only going to change the oil every 8-10,000kms

you mentioned injectors, does mazda recomend injector cleaning at any of there services for the mps?

Thanks for the heads up on intercooler. That will save me servicing time,NO mazda do not say anything about inj clean, just use the best 98 fuel that you can ,this will assist in helping keep clean.

Sound like you do plenty of klms ,that will assist in keeping upper engine clean. Remember ever know and then get into full boost to help dislodge gunk ,build up.

    Default Upper Engine Cleaning

Worth mentioning that Tunehouse did a complete efi, inlet and valve clean on my car today for it's service.
1st stage do coke throttle body, inlet, valves, combustion chamber, o2 sensor, and cat.
2nd stage disable fuel pump and run car on the cleaning solution, clean all of above.

They seemed to have some specialised equipment to do this from the sound I was hearing.

Tunehouse also recommended it when I last had mine serviced, cant remember the exact cost (it wasn't excessive though), car seemed to feel a bit better, but cars always feel better after a good service.
