Thread: Windscreen wipers skipping

  1. Default Windscreen wipers skipping

    Hello guys,
I've got a 2006 Mazda 6 MPS and I've changed my windscreen wipers recently and it started skipping/shuddering after a few months.
I've tried everything under the sun from swapping wipers from another car, cleaning the windscreen with windex, put on rainx on the windscreen, cleaning the wiper blades, trying to change the angle of the wiper arms but nothing seems to work. The funny thing is some times it goes fine for a few rotations and others it skips. Help is appreciated.

If your windscreen has a lot of sandblasting on it, it will also skip. Might be time for a new one

Forgot to mention that my windscreen is new as well, only a few months old.

    RainX is usually the problem.

Mine were doing it, got some glass polish onto it and they're all good now.

Does windex count as glass polish? I've read somewhere that claybar works?? The other windscreens seem to shudder/skip less than my main ones, when I leave it for sometime it allows me perfectly wipe the water for once or twice then it'll start shuddering/skipping again.

You can claybar your window I have heard that too. But there are window polished that are more effective.
@Caffeine Fiend should have an opinion on this?

Okay, I tried the claybar, and it works! Then it started shuddering again once I started spraying water from the reservoir. I've put some windex into the resevoir. Now to drain it, how do I do that?

Haha very funny. Okay, I've been misleading myself, I've tried spraying tap water on the windscreen and the wipers shudder/skip. So I can rule out the windex. As long as the windscreen is dry, the wipers won't shudder/skip vice versa.

Damn. Dunno what it might be
So it's only when it's wet when it skips?

Nope lol I'd count Windex as a glass cleaner only. I used a specific glass polish, I think it's made by Sonax. Repco usually has it.

You can try a glass polish. This will help remove hard water-spotting etc on the glass which can sometimes cause issues like this. There are a few different products around such as Sonax Glass Polish mentioned above, or Duragloss Nu-Glass Polish (what I use). These are thicker polishes as opposed to spray-based window cleaning products. ZAS sell an equivalent product from RainX: Rain-X X-Treme Clean Glass And Plastic Polish 355ml

I've not personally tried it though.

Also, Windex shouldn't be used on automotive glass, especially interior glass that has been tinted. Car tints react very badly with ammonia-based cleaners. Use an automotive grade glass cleaner. I use Meguiars No Smear Glass Cleaner, which works very well.

The blades that Tunehouse installed chattered like a bastard for me, I bought a set from supercheap auto and they work fine. Just try a different brand of wiper blade.

I normally give the glass a once-over with Duragloss as a standard thing. If it's really bad, can discuss other options. I have cerium based glass polish used for machining out light scratches in glass etc. Expensive stuff though and time consuming, so anything like that would need to be extra cost

Thanks guys. I will give buying cheap new wipers a go and hopefully it solves the problem. Been annoying me for the past few weeks. Don't want to buy glass polish and use it once.

Don't think it's my wipers, done it with every set including Bosch aerotwins. Must have something on the glass
