Default A day on the track with Richtune

As some of you may know, I've been on the Richtune path for a while, just haven't had a chance to finish it. Family, work....then car tuning. Plus the thought of spending big dollars on a dyno doing revisions didn't compute either, and street WOT's are a quick way to end my career and my family's fortunes.

So, put the idea across to Rich to do live revisions. I spend the day at the track, Rich sends back maps.

Did that today during the last Time Attack round of the year at QR.

It went very well. Tuning done, finally.

Richtune + $200 Full track Day = Fully tuned = WIN!

We fixed a engine cut issue @3MPSPWR on the first revision. Over boosting.

As we were already someway along the path, it only took 3 revisions to finish it (done by lunch).

I've got one more set of logs for Rich to look at, the last session today, just to make sure all is ok.

But the car goes great. Definately need a FMIC if I was to bring the heat down.

I wasn't completely shamed by a few R35's. I caught up and passed a blue convertible Maserati. It was a boat in the twisties, but on the straight he couldn't pull away. Very impressed. The R35's, well yes they did, but again, it wasn't a trouncing.

Anyway, a big thanks to @richierichness for making himself available on a Wednesday night in Virginia.

This was part way through today:

This was the second last revision: Already looking really good.

Nice nice motors todat, including the Masa!

...and my bucket, with the paint pealing of my dodgy quads...

Thanks Rob, something different. Josh @ MufflerMart Rocklea, does all my mechanical work. They did my CBE for me a few years ago. Highly recommend them.

Sounds good to me. I am still running stock intake and will be upgrading to the Corksport intake before then, will be good to see the different setups and tunes in action.

    Brad,
You would benefit from meth or an e85 mix (not sure if you have E over there). Your tune is knock free which means we could probably push a little hard with timing. However, your goal was a conservative tune and not overly aggressive. I'll send you an updated map with a little more timing so you can try it out.

Could definitely try e85. It's the logical next step. A few guys here are trying meth systems with quite a lot of success.

My only problem with running E85 in the Mazda is that you will have to get your mix more or less the same on each tank. If you screw up your mix, especially if you do not add enough Ethanol, then it will knock it's tits off and could cause some serious damage.

I ran E85 on my Evo and that was obviously easy as it wasn't a mix so it never bothered me. I suppose a Ethanol sensor could help with getting your mixes right but our biggest problem over here is that E85 is not available everywhere and if you travel too far you probably won't find it at all, which sucks!

I am still new to the Mazda platform and I am still trying to make sense of the timing tables so I have not scratched too much in that area, yet! I am also on a load based tune so not sure how far I can push that either.

Do you tune with Versatuner as well?
    Cheers

    Sorry for potentially dumb question..
Is e85 the same as caltex eflex and the e85 is all the same as united 100 octane stuff? Or what is difference between e85 and united 100 octane and then eflex??

United E85 is 85% Ethanol and 15% "Normal" fuel year round. Caltex E-Flex could contain up to 85% Ethanol mid summer and will go a lot lower Ethanol mix in winter to help with cold starts.

P100 is in fact an E10 (10% Ethanol and 90% regular fuel) fuel with an octane rating of 100 compared to E85's octane rating of 105.

Well that is the quick and short version.
    Cheers
