I like this Banesy You can't pee on what you CAN'T catch..... You nailed it, I love it. A ford man that total agrees that they can't catch the Mazda.

Sorry to dissapoint Luke but the mps extreme posted slower times than a stock mps in the tarmac mag road test ,your mps would dust the mps extreme , there were other problems as well get on to www.tarmacmagazine.com.au you can get the back copy also the hot hatch comparision gen1 mps verses the rest .

does the ~50% price premium really get you a car that's 50% better?
Does the 50% increase from $30k for the SP to the $45k for the MPS really get you a 50% better car? No! It's all the little things inside that you can't see, that make up the value. I agree the RS badge probably adds $5k to the price. You have to look at what you get for your money now.

The Gen 2 MPS is how much? $46k for the fat pack, and the RS will be $60k. That's only 25% for an "exclusive" car. Think back to the days of the Walkinframe Commodore.....................

    Gen 1 MPS $25k
    Mods $25k (Power = excessive)
    2 door conversion $10k

The look on the face of other MPS owners when you tell them you spent $60k on a car, PRICELESS.

On the Rototest Dyno runs the MPS claim is understated and the RS claim is overstated. This means that the difference is not that much which is born out by the acceleration figures on road tests. The question is would you pay the extra when you can get the extra performance by tuning the MPS for far less. In the UK, you pay monster insurance on an RS - another consideration.

Got a good close look at one today at our ford dealer.

My thoughts, looks and feels like a $19,990 drive away focus tarted up by a guy with too many gold chains, too much body hair and his hat on backwards.
Everything looks aftermarket, something I'd expect to see on the cover of hot 4s.
The seats weren't to my taste, bit hard (but most new seers are and they soften in time, so that's ok) they felt ok, but a bugger to get in an out of.
The inside is typical cheap focus, and damn I hate fake carbon fiber.

I'm sure it's a fantastic car to drive, but I don't think I could live with one daily.
If I had a rs and mps in the garage I'd puck the focus if I wanted to go for a good hard drive in, the other 99% of the time I'd pick the mps.

For the money I'd say it's not worth it, definitely not as a daily driver. I'd pick a golf r to drive regularly, or an mps, few bolt ons, and some change

I am thinking you want these comments to be taken seriously...Get real...

In the showroom at Tarra Ford in Bega, they have 2 green and 1 white RS beside a Blue XR5, and the XR5, for once in its life gets overpowered by the looks of the RS..

Everything on it is class...Yeah the seats are hard, too hard for my soft botty, but the massive intercooler, those huge 4 pot brembo's those 19 inch wheels is just class...

And again you totally don't understand the heritiage of the RS...

    Bias much daisy?

I have the right to my opinion, and I stand by it, if you don't like it I don't care.

I DO understand the heritage of the RS badge (I'm a massive Escort fan, was my first car, mk1 fitted with a 2ltr)
So it has a big indercooler?
So it has 19inch wheels? Making it uncomfortable to actually use on typical roads.
So it has brembo brakes that I actually don't like on a road car, find them too touchy.
    Big deal
If everybody liked the same car, life would be very boring.
No need to get your knickers in a knot over it.

So many things I feel like saying, but why bring myself to you level.

It seems to me that it's actually YOU daisy that doesn't understand the heritage of the RS badge.
Right back from the RS1600 and RS2000 escorts they were "q cars" humble basic cars with larger motors to allow the modifications for racing use.

They looked standard barring a few badges and other small changes.

They were never over the top looking cars.
If anything, the XR5 is closer to a true RS
