Yeah bit of a shame, though I wasn't really intending on getting rid of it until close to three years old... (and only then if there was something compelling to change to)

Before I ring Mazda I forgot to ask when I was at Grand Prix if it had the 2.5ltr motor, and when I was at Grand Prix Motorsport Graeme wasn't to sure that it's getting the new 2.5ltr anyone know....

90% certain it's the same motor as the gen 1/current gen 2

    From CarAdvice:

The range-topping sports model, the Mazda3 MPS, is now available in just one spec level. Priced from $39,490, it’s $1055 more than the old MPS hatch, but $2425 cheaper than the equivalent MPS Luxury. Like the rest of the range, the MPS’s 190kW/380Nm 2.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine is unchanged, and continues to drink 9.9 litres/100km combined, while sprinting from 0-100km/h in under seven seconds.

    Hasn't it always been a 2.3litre engine?

Yeah, seriously doubt they'd change the engine configuration on such a minor refresh. They'd save that for a Gen III (if it happens)

    That won’t happen until 2013 when an all-new, all-Sky Mazda3 goes on-sale.
2 years to go until a full refresh
current chassis etc stays the same
the SP20 suspension stays the same as the base models (booo..... what a cop-out for a SP model)

Yeh but the SP25 has a 2.5ltr motor...

---------- Post added at 05:13 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:12 PM ----------

All good doesn't bother me, I'm pricing the car for delivery to have 300Hp at the wheels. Was just checking to see if it had the same new 2.5ltr as the SP25...

    the SP25 has become a SP20 with a 2.0L sky-active engine
also, are you getting a turbo/intercooler/exhaust upgrade with that? getting 300hp (225kw) out of a stock turbo would take a fair bit of work...
    17 psi with just intake/DP gets ~205, 15.5 psi with intercooler/DP/intake is ~215kw
even people who have put 18psi through their engine with a turbo upgrade are only just cracking 300hp

actually, looks like the SP20 is a new model, whilst the SP25 continues with the same engine

Well mine was producing 260hp atw at 18psi and wasn't running FMIC or DP and other small things, I had the boys tune mine to preserve the motor so shouldn't be a problem, I will do a couple of things Col as done because when we tested his in brisbane a few weeks back he had 230kwatw...

Looks and sounds the goods but i wouldn't buy another mps.

It hasn't been a bad experience but there is no point beating the same trail again.. Something drastic would have to change.

2.5 without turbo or 2.3 with turbo...

Same Jmac, the MPS has been enjoyable, however come end of lease in 18 months time I will change.

Think I might try and fill my desire of a quick station wagon. Perfect for bikes etc.

Agreed 100% here. Next car will be something quite different, although the Renault dealership I drive past everyday mocks me with the Megane RS parked out the front...

When they update the 3 to Shinari design its gonna look porn.
Then all they need to do is shed a few kilos and it will be as sharp as the renault.
